My roommate picked up a Charter Arms .44 Special today. I was wondering if anyone on here could possible get me some information as to what it's worth....the best I could come up with is, based off the information on the barrel "Bridgeport, Conn.", is that it was made between 1960 and 1970.
Anyways, we're just curious as to what it's worth....wondering if he got a good deal or not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA
EDIT: Also, I was wondering about refinishing options. It was originally, from what we can tell, black. Probably a fairly shiny, glossy black. It's been sitting in storage for a long time. So, there's a little bit of surface rust. Any help in that area would be appreciated also. I'm all ears !

It was all him, as far as the whole purchase/deal goes....but I will say this, if that $250-300 is accurate...he got a good deal.
And, since I enjoy the occasional project, I'm going to try and restore it to it's original "luster".

for the surface rust, work on it with Rem Oil (or similar product) and 0000 steel wool. You don't want to try to take metal off, just polish off the corrosion.

What exactly is Rem Oil? Is it a type of penetrating oil? I'll pick up some of the steel wool this weekend.
I'm kind of excited about this revolver, I think that with the helpful expertise of those more knowledgeable than me, I can make it very pretty again.
I know I could search for info on the interweb....but I like hearing from people who know...especially on a forum that I'm a part of.

Rem Oil is a somewhat viscous oil, as opposed to a thin penetraating type oil. Actually, Breakfree CLP in the plastic bottle (not the spray) works as well.

I'm assuming this stuff can be purchased at most gun stores, correct?
Would Gander, or Academy have it?
Or would I have more luck trying the smaller, individually owned shops?
