Any CHL charged with??????

Post by Target1911 »

In regards to MANY posts about " I am worried about accidentally flashing"......"Its not illegal, it must be intentional"

Does anyone know if there has been any CHLers charged/convicted of "Failure to Conceal"?

Please provide links to stories and keep this to verifiable cases.

What I dont want is posts saying.....Well I heard once.....or, a friend told me.....or even worse, The guy at the local gun shop told me.....

Thank you

What you don't believe the guy at the local gun shop??

If you go to the DPS website they have statistics of crimes committed by CHL holders. It's hard to tell from the descriptions, but the numbers are very low. Of course they don't have links to stories or news reports. My analysis shows that most of the fears of "printing" or accidental exposure are unfounded.

One of Charles Cotton's interns also did a summary of this data. Here is the link to the data: http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... stics+Chas" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Failure to conceal falls under Unlawful Carrying of Handgun by License Holder. DPS published statistics on convictions. There were 22 convictions for Unlawful Carrying of Handgun by License Holder in the most recent reporting year. However, that doesn't answer how many are arrested but not convicted. It doesn't say which part of Unlawful Carrying of Handgun by License Holder they were convicted of violating. It also doesn't answer how many people plea bargained to a different offense. But it's a start.

Unlawful Carrying of Handgun by License Holder

is a very broad charge. That pretty much covers everything that CHLer can get in trouble for. They should clarify and divide into separate charges.

Thanks for the links

Unfortunately, that's as far as it goes. I don't know of any better source of information. It is a broad category, but it gives you a good idea of the magnitude of the "problem."
