Obviously I feel extremely bad for the police force and the families of those officers that were murdered...

Terrible situation. What makes it even worse is the absolute lack of respect some in the community displayed:

"People lingered at the scene of the first shootings. About 20 bystanders taunted police."

The dead suspect was identified by police as Lovelle Mixon, 27, who had a no-bail warrant for his arrest. Mixon, an Oakland resident, had an "extensive criminal history" and wielded two different weapons, including an assault rifle, when he came into contact with police on Saturday, said OPD Deputy Chief Jeffery Israel.
So he had a fully-automatic or select-fire assault rifle?

I think that's my #1 pet peeve...when the media refers to a semi-automatic rifle as an "assault rifle". I'm sure the Brady bunch will love it.

My heart goes out to the family of the slain officers though. This is truly tragic.
