Small and fast or Big and Slow?

Post by Diode »

What caliber do you prefer?

I am most accurate at the range with my.40S&W & 45acp handguns

I am least accurate with my 9mm and don't really care for the sharp recoil.
I prefer the more driving recoil of my .45acp's

I guess I am a big and slow fan so far. Of course I prefer the price of 9mm :)

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

There are so many variables, that we cannot control that it's really impossible to determine which is better.
A house cat can survive a point black chest hit with a 40 but a 200 lb man can drop like a rock with a 22lr.

I personally don't wish to get hit with ANY caliber bullet. Heck, even a BB gun can kill a person.
If your aim is true and you place your shot(s) well, God willing, you will prevail.

Actually, I have been thinking about the subject. I started ( for the most part still on it) on 9mm for obvious reasons. I have a G26 and G 17. I have gotten used to the " soft recoil ( so I thought ) of the 9mm's.. Then I bought a G23 and a Sig P 229. I was expecting a big bang and for the gun to jump out of my hands but Lo and Behold was I in for a pleasant surprise! Recoil is mild and well balanced as it sits firmly in the palm of my hand..The same is true w/ the .45 acp.. I realize though, that it's not only the caliber but has a lot to do w/ the specs of the handgun, thus I expect a snappier recoil ( haven't fired one yet) on a G27 compared to my G26. I'm I right???

With modern defensive ammo, if you hit your intended target first, you will probably do fine. Shot placement and penetration are the important aspects.

That said,

Hey Txinvestigator, you have f ine way of expressing and delivering you message!!  .. I need your professional help in showing me the proper way to fieldstrip/ assemble my brand new kimber custom II!! I will trade you either a steak dinner for two ( Saturdays only) or Sunday Brunch for two for the lesson if that is acceptable to you. Venue will be the country club where I work and I have a private office where you can give me the lesson I need..  The 1911 bug got me but I don't want to spend 3 hours ( plus sore fingers and lots of cussing) cleaning the "sacred piece".. BTW, you have been volunteered by a few of the honorable 1911 regulars on this site..
Thanks..

My favorite is the 9mm. To me, it's the perfect size and speed for great engery delivery. What more can you ask for ? :)

I prefer a 9mm and find that very few people accuse me of being a woman or a pansy

With well placed shots, nothing but the .40S&W was born out of the Dade County shoot out. Also the .357SIG Which is a .40S&W necked down to a 9mm slug came about from the 9mm Parabelum's lack of stopping power.
It is a debate that goes on forever but I was curious what regular people felt comfy carrying! I have a 9mm Kel-Tec I love the little gun.

Carlson1 you are the only one in this that has an excuse. When you get well Your 9 will gain some weight back & slow up a lot. Keep improving. See you in print.

I would be happy to show you how to take care of that Kimber. No trade necessary.

I will PM you and we can work out the details.
