expired CHL question

Post by justletmein »

So I had a CHL that expired almost 10 years ago, starting the process over from scratch and took the class again last weekend and filling out the forms the instructor said I had to call DPS and get my old license number to put on the form (there is a field for it) or they would reject it because once you have a CHL the number stays the same forever. I've called DPS and talked to two different peeps up there, one said that yes the number is they same and they need it but since they already know the number it doesn't matter because they can get it, and the other said that they're going to change it and give me a new number anyway, but both said to leave it blank. Anyone done this before and what did you do? I'm about to seal up the package and drop in the mail and just want to be sure there are no horror stories about leaving this one little field blank

Leave it blank. If DPS knows it, they will reassign it to you. If they don't, they will give you a new one.
