2006 Texas State IDPA Championship

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

Well for the folks who are shooting with us, here's a preview of the story or theme for the 2006 Texas State IDPA Championship. I hope you enjoy it.

Chas.

It’s All Because of a Relative You Wish You Didn’t Have

You’re in front of your open refrigerator, about to reach for that ice cold bottle you’ve thought about all day – especially during the hour you were in that traffic jam.

The phone rings. Caller ID says ‘City Jail’ and you cringe, strongly suspecting who is calling. But just in case ...

Receiver at your ear, you hear yourself say “Hello; unfortunately your suspicions are confirmed. “Hi, I was afraid you weren’t there! a very worried voice says. It’s the cousin your family calls “Broker because he’s always “broker than anyone else.

His quick, insistent voice goes on. “You gotta’ get me outta’ here! I got stopped for running a measely stop sign, then they hauled me in until I come up with $ 800 for a couple unpaid tickets.

You painfully remember two things. First, his mother is your favorite aunt; no matter how you feel about him you know you can’t let her down. Second, you have the money.

You told him you would be there, but decide to take it slow, let him sweat. Before you get home you’ll regret that attitude. Five minutes earlier would have made things a whole lot easier.

Stage 1 -- Jail Break!

As you walk into the police station you notice people scurrying around and police officers reaching for their guns. Some other armed men appear, one chasing your fleeing cousin. When ‘Broker’ sees you he turns and heads for you – and you go in to help.

It seems two local drug kings, known only as Bob and Duck, have sent hired help to get some cronies out of jail -- and take a few hostages for insurance.

Stage 2 -- House Clearing

After the encounter at the jail and several hours of explaining to the police, you took ‘Broker’ home. Now you get to your house and are looking forward to a cold brew, a hot shower and good night’s sleep.

Unfortunately Bob and Duck learned of your interference with their plans, and on top of that now consider you to be a witness. As you walk into your house you hear cries from your family ... some BG’s are there to welcome you.

Stage 3 - Rapid Response

After two shoot-outs you figure both you and your gun need some rest, but you also know you need some more practice, so you head to the range ... .

Stage 4 - Escape To Your Car

You took your kid to a movie, trying to give yourself and your family a little breather, a little normalcy.

Half-way through the film – “Lethal Weapon 10 – you notice some rough looking characters slowly moving through the theater, looking carefully but quietly at each person in the audience. You figure the chances are pretty high that they are looking for you, so you craftily sneak out to the parking lot ... but your kid runs out ahead of you.

When you get out there, you find some BG’s waiting for you.

How did they know?

Stage 5 - In The Alley

Just a quick trip to a nearby convenience store, that’s all it was supposed to be. Just as you are about to leave you see some shaggy but determined looking dudes coming down the other side of the street, looking like they are about to cross. You remember the words of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest, and head for the back door and the alley beyond.

Unfortunately, you find MORE BG’s in the alley ... and since the previous attempts have failed so miserably, Bob himself is there to supervise.

The thought enters your head “How do they manage to keep finding me?

Stage 6 -- ... On The Chopper

You call your ex-Army buddy, who is a helicopter pilot. After hearing how your last few days have gone, he suggests getting out of town in a quiet, hard-to-trace way ... he’ll fly you and your family out.

You go to meet him so he can fly you to pick up your family and bug out. As you walk to the chopper you both talk about the days when you were his door gunner ... suddenly, you are in that position again!

HOW DID THEY KNOW!

Stage 7 - Trouble At The Cafe

Your buddy flew your family to a really safe place, and then flew you to a different location, a tiny town with one small cafe that is so far in the woods ... well, you know that story.

Anyway, you are just sitting down to have a nice, relaxed dinner when a bunch of new ‘waiters’ show up.

HOW DID THEY KNOW?

Stage 8 - On The Bus

Since you arrived by air and your buddy is already gone, the only way out of this small town is by bus. You go to the station, get a ticket, wait, finally get to board, and are settling into a fairly comfortable seat.

Suddenly a bunch of ‘mechanics’ storm out of the garage ...

HOW DID THEY KNOW?

Stage 9 -- A Drive By Attempt

You’re in another small town, enjoying the local motel. You walk down the block to a grocery store. As you start across the parking lot you notice a big car coming down the street, and the hair on your neck goes to ALERT.

You start moving faster toward the store, but you’re a little late. The car turns into the parking lot and, slowing down, heads in your direction – and the windows start to come down.

HOW DID THEY KNOW?

Stage 10 – Shopping

You handled the crew in the car two days ago. Now you’re in another town and another store.

Some large men come out of the back storage room, and start shedding their aprons. There’s a bunch of them ... and a familiar face ... Bob is back, wanting to even the score. But this time, wanting make sure the job is DONE this time, even Duck is there, leading the effort.

HOW DID THEY KNOW!

Stage 11 – Luca’s Hammer ...

Things have been quiet for a few days, and you’re starting to think that you got them all or at least convinced them you’re not worth it. After all, you even handled Bob and Duck themselves.

You’re headed for a desert cabin owned by one of your friends. It is tucked away in an out-of-the-way canyon, the perfect place for you to do what you need most -- rest. Suddenly it becomes clear that your thinking was wishful -- and wrong.

Bob & Duck’s # 1 enforcer, known as Luca Brasi, Jr., on the street because of his charm and wit, came back, found out what was going on, and tracked you down. One more bad guy between you and some peace ...

“Luca, grinning widely, holds up a small tape recorder ...
And plays back several of your phone calls over the last few days ...

THAT’S HOW THEY KNEW!

Door gunner??? Do I get to bring my uncles m-60? On second thought, draw from concealment would probably be a little tough.

Sounds extra shiny.

I also can't wait.

EDIT:

It’s All Because of a Relative You Wish You Didn’t Have

You’re in front of your open refrigerator, about to reach for that ice cold bottle you’ve thought about all day – especially during the hour you were in that traffic jam, WATCHING THE RAIN COME DOWN IN BUCKETS. FOR A MOMENT THERE, YOU COULD'VE SWORN YOU SAW A BUNCH OF ANIMALS, TWO OF EACH KIND WALKING "TWO BY TWO" DOWN TOWARD THE DOCKS AS ALL THE HIGHWAYS, STREETS AND ROADS WERE FLOODING, YOUR ONLY THOUGHT WAS, "I WONDER HOW BAD IT IS FLOODING OUT AT THE RANGE?"

I hope this rain stops soon......
