Re: 9mm
Ok, I know some of this.... I believe they are all the same diameter bullet with different amounts of pressure / power. I am sure someone will explain it in better deail but here's a start.carlson1 wrote:Can some one explain the difference for the unlearned in. . .
9mm
9X23
9mm Mak
9mm Lugar / 9mm Parabellum / 9mm NATO / are all different names for the 9x19mm
9mm Makraov is the 9x18mm
9x17mm is the same as the .380acp (I think)
As for the 9x23 here is a link, I know very little of it.

I have recently switched over to the 9mm from .45 and a friend brought me a box of Corbon ammo that I guessed he assumed was 9mm. I finally felt like opening them today the first thing I noticed was that they were real short. On the round itself is stamped 9mm mak. So your information is more than I did know! Thanks.
The 9x19 is the standard one you'll want. most boxes (like Winchester White Box ) calls it 9mm Lugar!carlson1 wrote:I have recently switched over to the 9mm from .45 and a friend brought me a box of Corbon ammo that I guessed he assumed was 9mm. Carl,
I have seen a grip panel torn off with a resulting badly injured thumb from shooting an 9X18 out of a 9X19. This occured because the person owned both calibers and mixed the ammo up in his bag. I would be really careful!

I have already separated them in a plastic bag. They are Corbon Power Balls. Thanks for the warning I already have enough problems.jbirds1210 wrote:Carl,

9X23
9X23 is a very hot cartridge that is similar in dimension to a 38 Super. The 38 Super has a straight wall case, while the 9X23 has a very slight taper. I shoot 9X23 in my 38 Super will no problems.
To load IPSC major loads in 38 Super, you really should use a ramped barrel, but 9X23 pushes a 125 gr. bullet at 1550 fps without the need for a ramped barrel. This is true only if you use Winchester brass - it is much thicker in critical spots. Starline 9mm Super Comp has the same dimensions and is marketed for 9X23, but while it works well, it is not as thick and they should not be loaded to max. without a ramped barrel.
I know, this is more than you wanted to know about 9X23, but I really like the cartridge. Pistolsmith.com has a separate section for 9X23, if you want more information. http://www.pistolsmith.com/viewforum.php?f=31
