Could use some assistance.

Post by HOSSISFREE »

My father has a gun passed to him by my grandfather. It is an original made sometime during WWII. If anyone can offer any information on the following I would greatly appreciate it.

I am looking for any information you may know about the gun itself, or any leads on how to find out anything. I have absolutely no Idea where to go to find anything at all. I am, of course, interested in it's possible monetary value as well.

Given the expertise and knowledge of some of the forum members, this is the first place I thaught of when my father asked me to find out what I could.

Info/pics follows:

Remington Rand Inc.
Syracuse, N.Y. U.S.A.

United States Property

No. 439367

Edit: Pics can be found @ http://www.sourcefields.com/index.php

Thanks,

Hoss

I could not find a reference to numbers in that range, but my resource must be more limited than El Gato's.

O.K. the serial no engraved on the side of the frame is:

No. 439367

I there were only 21,500 made, what is the serial sequence, and how does No. 439367 fit into 21,500?

I'm lost.

it's probably an arsenal refurb. the frame is the older version before the updates, but remington-rand didn't make them until WWII, when the updates had already been incorporated.

if it was me, i wouldn't care for its value because i would have no plans of getting rid of it.

I am sorry Hoss there was someone talking to me while I was trying to check the #s and I left one out, then I got excited about it and didn't recheck them.

Chris may be right, because I still haven't found anything.

O.K. I'm back home from my parents, and it's a little late, but here we go.

To clarify....

Remington Rand Inc.
Syracuse, N.Y. U.S.A.

is on the slide.

"United States Property" is on the left side of the frame

"No. 439367" is on the right side of the frame.

The only other markings I found were on the barrell.
B F I
S P

I have absolutely no idea what significance that may have.

Here a a couple pics....If they do not show up, I have exceeded my hourly bandwidth limit on the geocities account. Try again later. Please!

Edit: These pics can be found @ http://www.sourcefields.com/index.php?cat=10003

You guys have been great!!!!! Gotta love the graciousness and knowledge of the forum! Thank you all sooooo much. It meens a lot to my Father to know something about my Grandfather's gun.

just the stuff i've dug up, the frame looks like a colt, with 1918-1919 being the correct time period, but the slide is definitely a WWII. the remington serial numbers had a capital "0", not a lower case "o".

the frame and slide are parkerized. the early models (1918-1919) were blued. that's an arsenal rebuild. you need to look hard for the arsenal marks. i can see a letter above your magazine release button, which is where the rebuild marks are.

i would suspect the value to be comparable to any other war time 1911; $1000 maybe.
