Police: Texas girl, 12, shot dad in back of head

Post by CainA »

I can't believe this hasn't been posted yet.

KATY, Texas – Police say a 12-year-old suburban Houston girl fatally shot her father in the back of the head, possibly while he was sleeping.

Katy Assistant Police Chief Tim Tyler says a relative of 38-year-old Mark A. Nelson called 911 and summoned officers to the home Wednesday morning.

Officers found Nelson lying on his side in the master bedroom, shot once in the back of the head. Tyler told the Houston Chronicle that Nelson worked nights and may have been trying to sleep. He says Nelson was alone with his daughter when he was shot.

Nelson died Wednesday night at a hospital. His daughter was charged with aggravated assault before he died.

Neighbor Gabrielle Young told the newspaper there had been tension between the girl and her father.
1st off how does a 12 year old girl or boy for that matter have access to a gun.

You never know. Gun might have come from outside the home. Searching for more details.

Update: A little more detail in this article (excerpt below):
Police did not immediately release a possible motive for the shooting.
Young said the 12-year-old girl often came over with bruises on her neck.
Young described the child as “a really good kid” who made good grades.
“I saw him yelling at her a lot,” Young said of the injured man, “and she hated going home. When he showed up, her whole mood would change.”

The child's fingerprint card wasn't dry and the father's body was still warm when politics jumped into the Comical's comment section for this article. One has to wonder what could make a girl kill her own father in this manner. Of course some idiot already said the man is dead because the gun wasn't properly secured. I don't know how one could possibly know that given that it is probably just as easy for a 12-year-old to stab a man in the heart or neck with a kitchen knife as it is to find a gun and shoot someone.
When you take the time out of your day to beat someone, it has a much longer lasting effect on their demeanor than simply shooting or tazing them.
