Cousin & ATV accident *UPDATE*

Whether the need is great or small, there is power in prayer, especially when God's people raise their voices together.

Cousin & ATV accident *UPDATE*

Post by sneedb82 »

Hey CHL family.

I want to first say thank you to God and to you all for helping in the prayers for our moving situation. The Lord worked it out so far that we will not be moving to Houston sooner than January, but the job is still open until then.

However, the Lord has also blessed us with a new situation. I praise Him for the "tragedies" and the trials, because there's a lesson to learn. I'm asking for prayer for my 16 yo (almost 17) cousin, Cole Headrick. He was involved in an ATV accident this afternoon at the lease. He was not hot-dogging, but rather was traversing a ravine, when the 4wheeler toppled backwards over him. He has suffered a back injury at the T7/T8 vertebraes. The surgeon and the attending ER docs said that the spinal column is severed. Our prayers is that the Lord, who is capable of all things, would work a miracle and that the surgeons and attendings misread the readings and the column is not severed. He is an avid hunter, and I know there are capabilities for hunters in wheelchairs, however, I know that the Lord has more for this young man, regardless of what happens in surgery tonight.

He is in surgery as I type, and dreams of going on to become a taxidermist (already does most of his own stuff). I've stories of this young man, that makes me so sad and happy at the same time. He lost his father to multiple myeloma when he was 5 and has been living his father's dream so to speak since then. His mom and him are all that they have for the most part, and they have strong family ties. It is tough on the mom, as you can possibly imagine. I'm seeking His wisdom to be a blessing to them, that God can use all situations, and good can come from the bad (just look at Joseph, right?).

My wife and I love you guys, and pray that the more folks we have praying for this young man, the more peace and grace that this young man and mom will feel. Thank you all for your prayers.

--Brandon

Oh... he is at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Don't know the surgeon's name, but my wife worked on their team when she was an RN there (prior to our recent move), and she knows their skills and their reputation.

Father, tonight we need a miracle for Cole, Lord please reach down and touch him with Your healing power. I ask for wisdom for the surgeons and doctors that are working on him, guide them with Your wisdom and not mans wisdom. I pray for this entire family that are going through this tragedy and lift them up to You and I ask for Your peace to fill them all to an over flowing abundance of grace, peace, and love. Lord give them hope, give them comfort and give them strength to hold to you hand as they walk through these uncertain times. I pray that for which the devil meant for evil, that you will use it to You Glory.

Thank you, Father, in Jesus' name I ask.

8:55 PM CDT: Out of surgery. Surgeons informed us that the rods were placed successfully to stabilize the two fractured vertebrae. However, the column still appeared to be severed, and he will remain in ICU until Wednesday or so... then moved to a private room. Thank you all for the prayers thus far, and I will keep updates as I get them.

Thank you all again for those viewing and lifting up prayers as well. Your views are as much important to me as the actual replies. It's encouraging for kindred brethren to seek the Lord's face on things such as this.

God bless.

UPDATE!

Wife just called me at work. Doctors came in, and I assume that they did another MRI/CT Scan, and the prognosis is better than before. Appears that the Lord hears the faithful, and STILL works miracles, Praise God.... the spinal column is torn, but not severed. Looks like he will be fitted for a full body cast today (Praise the Lord that it's a member of our home church in Lubbock doing it too).

To God be the glory, great things He hath done!! This is just the beginning, as physical therapy and healing is just beginning. Thank you all so far for your prayers.

I have some good news to share.

Cole is doing better... not great under the circumstances, but is doing better. They moved him out of ICU on Tuesday and into a private room. He was able to take visitors, and started Physical Therapy late afternoon Tuesday (wiggling toes and such... well, trying).

Wednesday evening they moved him from the private room on the Neurological Floor to a rehab floor, designed especially for Physical Therapy of back injury patients.

He's been in good spirits, even told the Doc when he said he had a long, hard road ahead, and to be prepared, his comment was "You've never played for Monterey High School Football, have you?"... so he's got a good attitude, and is looking forward to getting a wheelchair, so he can be mobile (typical 16 year old). The wife and I will be traveling to Lubbock tomorrow afternoon after work, and will be spending the weekend up there. I will post any further updates as I get them... but things look good from here.

The prayers now are directed towards the recovery as well as the strength that he will regain, as well as the mobility. I'd like for him to take me hunting for pronghorn sometime (Yes, my younger cousin has done more hunting than I probably ever will in my lifetime, and he's only 16).

Thanks again CHL family. Have a great evening, and thank you for all of your prayers and thoughts. I pray the Lord blesses you as much as you all have blessed me and my family.
