Withdrawal coming soon

Post by Dan20703 »

I have to travel out of the country starting tomorrow for 8 days. It will be the longest stretch of time in many years that I won't be carrying a gun. I will bring a knife but I still don't know what the laws are in the country I will be in. Luckily most of the time I will be with a local that is somewhat of an outdoorsman. He should be able to tell me what I can and can't carry.

............I already feel the withdrawal....................

Depends. He is leaving the country so it might be off limits to transport a firearm into another country. If you're going somewhere in the U.S. carry away, in your checked baggage that is. I flew my kimber numerous times last summer with southwest, even my newly purchased LCP. You just have to meet some requirements like having your ammo in a box that protects the primers and your gun in a locked case. TSA is supposed to check to make sure your gun is unloaded but everytime I flew I just told them I had a firearm to check in and the lady just asked me to open it, is it loaded, no, yadda yadda, then she merely glanced at it and put a TSA sticker on it after I locked her up. Easy as pie! :thumbs2:

Lock-blade knives are illegal in a lot of places.
Probably not worth the trouble.

From what I've been told, TSA and airline employees are prohibited by Federal regulations from physically handling a firearm. They can only do a visual inspection.

I've flown with my XD-40 on numerous occassions. They always ask me to open the locked case, the person at the airline counter asks if it's unloaded, I say 'Yes, fill out the orange card, and put it in the case with the gun, then close the case back up. There was one time where I had to take it to the TSA and they did another visual inspection (then did the chemical test on the outside of the case looking for explosive residue), but that's only happened once.

I've flown a couple of times in the last 6 years and wanted to take mine with me. Unfortunately, my destination states did not honor our Texas CHL. I felt neked the whole trip.

I'm going to a couple of eastern european countries. Can't bring a gun. Checked baggage will have a knife or two. I will find out a whole lot more once I get there.

I'm flying to California for a week in July to visit family and friends, and I'm not even going to bother bringing a gun or a knife with me. I can't legally carry a gun in California. Getting caught would be a felony, and I would lose my CHL in Texas, so it's just not worth it. At least one of my carry weapons - the one I would be most willing to part with if confiscated - isn't legal in California anyway because it has 12 round magazines. And even if I brought one of my 1911s, which I know are legal in California, I'm not willing to risk that some boneheaded airline, airport, or police employee in California thinks it isn't.

I'm going to feel naked.
