Fun Day at the Range

Post by pbwalker »

I figured I'd share because it really illustrates how shooting can be an exciting, fun, and bonding experience with family!

My Uncle came down to visit me and the family for the 4th of July weekend. He still lives up in NYC, so I figured I would ask him (instead of assuming) if he'd like to go shooting. Surprisingly, he said "Yes!"

We had a great day out at the Bullet Hole here in San Antonio. We rented a bay and he was able to shoot my .22 Mossberg, AK, AR, G23, and Remington 870. He mentioned it had been 50 years since he had been shooting and I saw his face light up as soon as he pulled the trigger on the AK the first time. He was born and raised in Cuba pre-Castro and once Castro came into power, all their guns were long gone. And now living in NYC, he has no firearms. So this was a great treat for him, almost like taking him back to his childhood. He told me next time he comes down to visit, he'll be bringing his good glasses so he can 'shoot out the bulls eye with no misses'.

I also took out my 13 year old step-son for his first shoot. He was a bit nervous, so I had him try out the 10/22 first and he said "Oh, it's like a BB gun" and after a few shots, he went right for the AR and LOVED it. He'll be a shooter for sure. He was a natural on the XD .45 and had a big Kool-Aid smile on his face as well. It was good to get him out and away from the Xbox!

It was a great trip followed by a nice lunch and a cigar at a local Cuban / Puerto Rican restaurant.

Have a great 4th of July weekend Guys and Gals!

Thank you for the report of fun, family, digging up memories for the uncle & creating the first for the young man.
I cannot imagine living in a place like NY.
