I may have a discharge in a rest room with my J frame revolver and it's ten pound trigger pull nearby, but it won't be from the gun. :biggrinjester: :smilelol5:

I've disarmed in an airport restroom as well. Since it has to be done in a stall, it's somewhat of a hassle but as long as care is taken, no problems. I'm sure if I unloaded and packed away at the sink where it would be easier and safer, I would probably get arrested.

It's just another thing that has to be "practiced" so the muscle memory and procedure is ingrained enough to prevent accidents. By practice I mean that one has to drop the mag, put the mag in the suitcase while still holding the pistol WITH A LIVE ROUND IN THE CHAMBER, then clear the chamber and stow that round as well. I know I'm a bit slow but when handling live firearms I want every movement to feel familiar and for it to be something I can do blindfolded.

from the details....or lack of details given, i.e. no name, he was not charged, was allowed to board the plane, etc., I would almost bet he has to be a politician (most likely fed)

Surveyor,

In this case, I disagree. There was one detail given that makes it understandable. The person had a CHL and had properly declared the weapon for carry in his luggage. No charges filed since no crime was committed. Allowed to board the plane since no crime committed. No crime means his name is not part of the public records the police must release, so the paper may not even have his name to print.

If it had been a politician, I am sure he would have been named (especially if he were a conservative or big name). In a few cases, it pays to be a private citizen over a politician.

Wouldn't discharging a firearm in a public building (other than a range) be a crime? I'm OK with them giving the guy a pass, but I doubt they had too.

it will be a real interesting story to follow. I wonder if it had been me if I would have been charged with some type of unlawful discharge of a firearm, or public endangerment, etc.

I guess in my middle age years I am really becomming cynical.

You're probably right Steve, but the devil's still in the details somewhere ;-)

 How embarrassing, as has already been stated...practise, practise, practise before you find yourself in this situation.

The way I read this thing the individual properly declared the weapon for carry in his luggage and then went into the restroom and unloaded it. Should it not be the other way around or am I missing something?

Can anyone imagine being in that echo chamber when that weapon discharged. I bet it would scare the crap out of you if it didn't take out your hearing for a few minutes. Glad nobody got blasted.

Finger off the trigger seems to be a hard one for folks. I watched a grandmotherly old lady at the shooting range holding her finger on the trigger and waving it around like a pointer. I said something to her and her cranky old husband made some kind of awnry comment back at me. I told him if she shoots someone, he better hope it was me because if it was someone else, I was going to shoot him for it happening and laughed. He then lightened up and told her to keep her finger off the trigger or he was going to get shot. This was not the first person I have watched make this mistake at the range.

Finger on the trigger is a huge problem. I'd say more than half of my students have this affliction, despite my harping on them constantly. :banghead:

I have had a few new shooters I brought along over the years. I act like a complete wild jerk about seeing a finger on the trigger :bigmouth . My hope is that getting such a negative reaction to this totally unacceptable trait, will dig deep in the mind. There is no way I can be nice about something so stupid.
