Will be driving into Colorado State

My first time with the family . Im Tx CHL and my Glock 23 will be with me . Will be visiting Colorado Springs, CO and then up into Pike's Peak and Garden of the Gods. Anyone here been there and do they allow CHL holders in those areas ?
As far I know Colorado State will honor Texas licensed holders , right ? Anything I need to know?

I think that those sites cover it pretty well. The only thing significant thing that I recall is that the Colorado Springs Airport restricts you from open carrying inside the building.

Thanks for the info. Im glad CO is like Texas. But NM restricts carrying in State Parks, WMA and National Forest. So much so in tribal lands. It has to stay concealed in the car and not carried.

Be cautious with the federally controlled lands and parks - they'll be covered as long as the state allows carry in their state parks, but are not yet. I think that goes into effect in February.

There are still operative restrictions in National Parks. I am aware of no restrictions on carry in national forest or BLM land.

My Dad is up there now in Pueblo...He drove...

So check each states rules, and you should be just fine...

We flew up there last year in Sept. Took my gun and had a great time. As long as you don't go into a National Park, and are very careful about Denver (so I heard), you should do just fine. We did not visit either (except for going through Denver via I-70), but we did spend considerable time in National Forests. CO does not have any 30.06 type requirements for businesses that do not want CHLers to carry. A simple "No Guns" sign is all that is required. However, in 9 days I never saw one.

With the exception of Denver, Colorado is an open carry state but a recognized permit/license is required for concealed carry. The usual rules about schools, federal offices, National Parks, etc. apply.

In four full summers, I've yet to see anyone except LEO's carrying openly and have to ask myself what's the big deal about open carry?

I went up Pike's Peak last year and they had a sign at the guard booth that said "This is NOT a national park" or something to that effect. Unless there is some other reason people ask about that enough for them to put a sign up I figure that's an open invitation to carry.

Im still at Amarillo. Its been a long drive and we are resting at the motel . A heavy downpour kept us safe rather be in the highway. I checked and distance to Colorado Springs from Amarillo is another 300 miles. Whoa, this is really a long drive, hahaha. Anyways this is vacation for all of us and nothing like family time. Thx for all the responses. People in the small cities we ve passed through are really nice and friendly. Great to be living in Texas country !

I was up in Crested Butte a few weeks back, and I carried everywhere (I did not enter any state parks, but did go onto some BLM controlled land)....it was the same as here, and even easier because you could where a light jacket in May....God I hate Houston summers...

I open carry on the trails in the national forests wilderness areas every day for 5 months each year. As the local sheriff has said, "A shot in the air is a good way to turn around a mamma bear or bull moose that is reluctant to let you back out of the area safely". The mountain lions, though, you had better shoot to kill if one charges you.

Last Wednesday we went up Pikes Peak and took a lot of pics . It was cloudy and rained every now and then . Once we hit the summit it rained hard and snow flurries came then heavy hailstorm. It was only peeble like so no car damage unlike the baseball size in Pueblo that same day. Thank God !
It was a wonderful experience. The fog blanketing the summit and once going down hill was sure scary. The slushy road from the hail , rain and snow . Its steep and exhilarating . It was worth it. I would love to come back again.

Yesterday we climbed up the Seven Falls. That was one experience as well . Highly recommended. We hiked up the top to a old timer's grave. We had a view of Co Springs. Once we went down we saw some Black Bear tracks. Yes it was wild bear country. Got down safely.

Today went to USAF Military Academy. The place is so huge and they have about 4300 students .

While watching local TV news , it sounds like crime in Colorado SPrings and Pueblo are high. Well these two towns are mainly tourist destinations. I seldom see Patrol Cars in the streets. They must have cut down on them.
