I joined a new church

Post by 74novaman »

The Church of John Moses Browning.

Got myself a late graduation present in the form of a Rock Island 1911A1. Now I'm itchy for Saturday to get here so I can actually go to the range with it!

As soon as the camera quits messing around, I'll get some pictures up.

Now that you've got your 1911 will it be a safe queen, range use only, or
your daily carry?

A "Star Trek the Next Generation" reference. The Borg was a planet type entity that consumed all, My reference was to my observation that everyone seems to be joining the 1911 club.
My weird humor in action.

To liberty: Resistance is Futile. You will be assimilated. :smilelol5:

SIA: I'm going to the range with it on Saturday. As soon as the next paycheck comes in and I can afford a quality holster, if its proving to be reliable it will be carried, alternating with the PT145. I'll probably go for the 1911 more this winter....summer heat has designated IWB carry, which works better for the small PT145. I'm thinking its time to try OWB for the 1911.

Liberty:

I'm also feeling the attraction of the 1911 gravitational pull.

For the most part I kept thinking that my "move up" gun would be an XD
or XDM in one of their multitude of appealing flavors, but the 1911 owners
seem to be the most dedicated and enthusiastic of any style of handgun on the
board.

They say that the collective wisdom of a group is the most accurate.

If so, I may just have to go Taurus PT1911, bitone, when the finances allow.

Is it funny because a Rock Island is not on as high a plateau of gun
snobbery as a Kimber or other higher end 1911?

Congrats 74novaman, the RIA GI has a very reasonable price point and will serve your purposes well.

Basically. Its a cheaper gun. Obviously I want to take care of it and keep it nice just like my other guns, but I'm not going to cry if it gets scratched or something. I'd love to try out some IDPA type shooting with this gun sometime.

That pistol looks awfully familiar
