Anti-gun in Hurst, TX
The NRA has released a list of Mayors aligning themselves with NYC Anti-gun Mayor Bloomberg's MAIG (Mayors Against Illegal Guns) coalition. A nice conservative sounding title to mask Bloomberg's agenda. There are only two mayors listed in Texas: Austin, no suprise there, and Mayor Richard Ward in Hurst.
"There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism—by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide." The Monument Builders, Ayn Rand (1962)
Re: Anti-gun in Hurst, TX
That's because Hurst is full of anti-gun, liberal transplants from the northeast. Hurst was also full of pro Obama signs during the election last year. No surprise the mayor is anti-gun.

Re: Anti-gun in Hurst, TX
I think it may be that Hurst is a working class city. Most hourly hacks voted for him because their daddies always voted for the Democrat. I know a lot of them that did just that. It didn't matter in Collin County as their are so many more Republicans than Democrats, voting Dem is throwing your vote down the toilet.Jason73 wrote:That's because Hurst is full of anti-gun, liberal transplants from the northeast. Bill White, current Mayor of Houston and Senator want-to-be, was a member for a long time. If he's not on the list now, it's because he decided it would hurt his future political plans.

Hurst is about half blue-collar retirees.
My folks live there, and I bet they both voted Democrat ...again.

Most hourly hacks?
Please explain what an "hourly hack" is?
Thanks!

Re: Anti-gun in Hurst, TX
An "hourly hack" is someone who works for a living at an honest job. He may actually *gasp* get dirty! Usually lives in "flyover country."
Byron Dickens
Re: Anti-gun in Hurst, TX
So describing someone as an "hourly hack" is a derogatory term for working folks.

Re: Anti-gun in Hurst, TX
I've never heard the term before but I don't think it's derogatory in and of itself.Abraham wrote:So describing someone as an "hourly hack" is a derogatory term for working folks.

However, any term used in association with die-hard liberals tends to raise a red flag in my mind.
I think Lightning just did a bananna fingers typing mix-up and used a poor choice of words.
Or maybe I'm just a "Toothless - Moronic - Booger-Eatin' - Redneck" (which I am) and I don't know any better. (Now THATS derogatory).
Well, I'm not "toothless", and I quit eatin my boogers about 49 years ago but the rest is fairly accurate.

I am a blue collar, card holding union member. The only time I voted in the 'D' column was for Jimmy the peanut farmer. I was 18 at the time and didn't know better. The people I work with are as varied politically as any other group. You would probably be astonished at the number that are conservative. A lot of us of course are gun owners too. You won't get very much support from the guys at work if you wear an 'O' button. Yes, the union itself is pro-liberal, but the rank and file is varied and we don't vote lock-step. We're wiser that that.
BTW, Teddy died today. Should I stay home and mourn or just go on a drinking binge?

I happen to have been an hourly hack for 20 years Abe, as are many or most of my friends, and very proud of it. Several of us HOURLY HACKS got together and started our own company, thank you. There is NOTHING derogatory about the phrase at all. You must not be one of us if you think there is. The comment about voting democrat is true....as a union steward for 6 years in the TWU, I can assure you that voting Democrat was strongly encouraged, to put it mildly. Relax ...no need for the political correct police at this time.

It was the same way with the transport workers union. The union wanted everyone to vote blindly democrat and many did. I have even known pro-gun folks who voted for Obama thinking the democrats would not attack our gun rights. I agree though that there are those that vote the Republican ticket and just keep quite about it. LOL...I was one who did just this. i always tried to avoid political conversations because I knew I was about to end up in heated debate.

As my poly-sci prof told me a long time ago, when the Dems pass the hat put in a $1. When the Reps pass the hat, put in a $1. When you get to the voting machine, vot the way you want.
Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... (Jefferson quoting Beccaria)
... tyrants accomplish their purposes ...by disarming the people, and making it an offense to keep arms. - Supreme Court Justice Joseph Story, 1840

Did you say we could throw a Democrat in the toilet? I'd buy a ticket for that.03Lightningrocks wrote:I think it may be that Hurst is a working class city.
