concealed carry at state hospital
Hello Forum.
Please forgive me if this topic has been covered... a hasty search provided no links. My job will soon require that I frequently enter the grounds of the local state hospital. Posted at the entrance of the grounds, is a fairly large white faded sign. Paraphrased, the wording on the sign indicates that firearms (concealed handguns included) are not allowed on the premises. The sign is not even close to being 30.06 compliant. Am I prevented from concealed carry at this hospital? I looked at PC. 46.035 (b) (4). Would this apply?
Thanks for the input.

Without a legal 30.06 sign you can carry into any hospital in Texas, with the possible exception of a VA hospital.

I don't know much about this hospital , but I suspect they treat prisoners in there, there may be sections that are off limits to CHL carry.

UTMB on Galveston is a no weapon campus. MY wife works for the school, I do not carry on campus. I do have a weopon in the car and rearm when leaving. But it are the stand alone clinics off island part of the campus?

There is no such thing unless it is privately owned and has 30.06 signs posted at the entrances to all the parking lots. Since the University of Texas part of UTMB means that it is a State-owned school, they are not allowed to post the grounds. Only the buildings are off-limits and that is because they are statutorily so.

Re: concealed carry at state hospital
I just had to ask a quick question before I give an answer. When you say the local state hospital, are you meaning a place like the San Antonio or Austin State Hospitals? If it is named like this, it is not a hospital like many of us think, but a treatment facility for the mentally ill. Given this, I recommend not carrying in the facility and making sure the weapon is properly secured in the car (inside a safe preferably).
From you description of the sign, I will agree with most of the posters that it would be legal to carry in the hospital. Even as a police officer, I would not carry around the mentally ill when avoidable. There is just no predicting what they will do a any time, including attacking you just to get the weapon (if they detect it).

Hmm. What about a place like the Denton State School? Even though it says school in the name it's not really the kind of school we're used to kind of like those state hospitals are not the same kind of hospitals we're used to.

North Texas State Hospital is in Wichita Falls, and it has a sister State funded hospital in Vernon. Both are mental health care facilities.
I believe that OP mentioned the first one in his original thread.
