Lugar Pistols
Does anyone here own a Lugar pistol? Are they being made by anyone? I've seen them for sale at actions and the real ones cost more than my car is worth.

Re: Lugar Pistols
Would that be pistols built by Indiana Senator Dick Lugar, or are you referring to to the Luger pistols of WW2 vintage, or to any pistol chambered in 9mm Luger (AKA Parabellum, 9x19mm, and 9mm NATO)?

Re: Lugar Pistols
The Luger P08 is arguably THE most prized collector's pistol ever. They've been obsolete since the beginning of WWII, as the German's stopped producing them when they introduced the P-38. DWM produced the vast majority of them, followed by Mauser. A Swiss company, Waffenfabrik Bern, made them under license by DWM.
I don't think anyone except (maybe) Stoger is importing/making them now. The manufacturing process is just to expensive, as it's made from machined parts.

Re: Lugar Pistols
The last real P08 Lugers that I know of being made were made 25-30 years ago by Mauser on the original machinery. These were collector grade guns selling for over a thousand dollars apiece back then. During the days after WWII a surplus Luger could be had for $25-30 the same gun now would command top dollar. Lugers are now collectors guns not shooters.

Back in the 90s Stoeger was selling blued and stainless copies of Lugers in 9mm.
Stoeger did not make them, either Mitchel or Aimco (maybe both) made them for Stoeger.
You can still find them.
As far as I can tell, they follow the Luger pattern faithfully.
My wife picked up a stainless version at a gun show for $500.
It shoots very nicely and is an affordable way to own and shoot a Luger.

Re: Lugar Pistols
I've been looking for a "shooter" grade Luger for a while now. In my reading, I've found that there are thought to be something like 3000 variations of this pistol, some of which drive collectors into a tizzy.
Naturally, every decent one I've come across is another "rare variation" justifying an inflated (to me) price . . . so I haven't purchased one yet.
