Finally Scored Some Ammo Locally

Post by jsimmons »

"Score" isn't the best word, but I'm trying to get excited even though I paid way too much.

Went to The Powderhorn here in San Antonio, and they had some .45 ACP FMJ, as well as .40 JHP. It's the first time I've found JHP of any caliber locally. The price was way to high, but I needed the ammo. $102 with tax for 100 rounds of the .45 ($25/50), and 40 rounds of the .40 ($24/20)...

That's all the JHP I hope I have to buy (since that's my self-defense ammo). Local Walmarts have a ready supply of .40 FMJ, but almost never have the .45 (in any flavor). I'm trying to build up a 1000-round stockpile of FMJ for both calibers.
Took class, paid fees, changed my mind. I want constitutional carry.

Notice - I said *locally*, and ammoman is frequently/always "out of stock" on the ammo I want.

Cool, the Powderhorn. Haven't been there in many years. Bought my very first firearm from them in 1981 (age 21). Grew up just a few miles away (Adams Hill) and used to visit often to admire their inventory.

I've been having good luck finding 9mm and .45ACP FMJ's at Academy lately. Might have to go to a couple different locations but I can usually find something. For JHP's the only place I've seen any in a while is Bass Pro. Managed to pick up some Winchester SXZ JHP's in 9mm and .45ACP recently and I've noticed it keeps reappearing on the shelf every couple of weeks. Maybe there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

Haven't been to the Powderhorn but have been meaning to get there. It's not very far from where I work and would be easy to stop in on my way home some day. How's their selection and prices? I've heard great things about the service.

6 out 6 weeks, I've found 9mm ammo at Academy. Saturday afternoon, I found 9mm Winchester at Walmar. Finding 9mm at Walmart on a Saturday is a good sign.

Service is outstanding, but I would look elsewhere for .45 ACP FMJ. Walmart's is a $6/50 cheaper. I would expect all of their ammo is like that.

Hope we're not gonna get run over by that train, I'm surprised it hasn't done more damage given the majorities it has in both houses of Congress :boxing

Thanks. I check WalMart for ammo as well, just haven't found it there as often as at Academy. Saw some Federal .45's once for $15-16 for a box of 50 I believe but just don't find it there too often. I'll have to try to check more frequently I guess.

Lately the Walmart next to where I work seems to always have 2-6 boxes of .40 on hand, but that's all. Weird thing is that it's always pushed way to the back of the case like they don't want anyone to know it's there.
