I have a friend who is an ex-Federal Game Warden, ex-Sky Marshal (one of the first many moons ago) and ex-Customs Agent.
Is he eligible for a discount when buying a pistol?
I don't think he actually retired from any of these posts, but held them at different times in his career.
Thanks!
Discount For Ex-LEO?

Re: Discount For Ex-LEO?
Discount from what? If you are talking about the price, it will depend on the store selling it and if they offer a discount for ex-LEO's. There is no kind of across-the-board discount programs for current or ex-LEOs, military or anything else.

Keith B,
Sorry, I wasn't clear.
Yes, I'm referring to a discounted cost for a new pistol.
I know somewhere in the past, (now of course, I don't remember where) I've come across discounts for new Glocks for current LEO's, but have no idea if such is or was ever available for ex's, if you will...
My friend and I visited a few days ago and he suggested he will be getting his CHL, but doesn't own a single firearm.
I thought it would be a nice gesture on my part if I could point out where he might find a more affordable carry piece.
His funds are quite limited.

Re: Discount For Ex-LEO?
There may be some stores that will offer current or ex-LEO discounts. If he is retired, he can actually carry under LEOSA as a retired peace officer and not have to get his CHL, which might save him some money.. I am not real familiar with the LEOSA process, but know it is available to them if officially retired. The CHL may add some benefits I am not aware of. I do know others on here will have more info on that.Abraham wrote:Keith B,

Re: Discount For Ex-LEO?
H&K were offering a good discount to current sky marshals on a USPc. Not sure about "ex" or if the program is still running, but this kind of thing is not unheard of. Can't hurt to make a few calls and dig out the charm.

Re: Discount For Ex-LEO?
The law enforcement programs I am aware of are factory sponsored programs for officers to buy their own duty weapons. Glock has the best one, but S&W also has one. I think Sig does also.
As far as I know, these are only for active officers. Glock used to require a letter from your agency authorizing the purchase, though i think they just accept copies of your ID now.

Most require letterhead from current agency. Not sure if he had actually retired, if someone would get something.

Re: Discount For Ex-LEO?
Depends on the store and manufacturer. Some give the same discount to every American. Some discriminate.
