Motorcycle

Post by cohiba550 »

Have not recieved my CHL yet but was wondering about carrying on my motorcycle when I'm traveling. Does the law treat the motorcycle and car differently on this subject?

Welcome to the forum cohiba550. :tiphat:

No difference for the Motorist Protection Act, but you must keep it concealed at all times. Also, without a CHL, you can't remove it from your motorcycle if you are not on your property or property you are in control of. So, for instance if you had to evacuate your bike and had the handgun on your body, then you would be in violation. IANAL.

Do a search on the words motorcycle and protection and you can find other discussions there on the forum.

Enjoy!

It shouldn't and I don't think it does, but what do you intend to do with it when you stop? If you're not at you're final destination you can't take it in with you unless you're in a state that would allow you to carry without a license. I wouldn't want to leave mine on my bike. It is far less secure there even than in my truck or car.

Thanks for the fast answers.......I didn't think it would make a difference but wanted an expeirenced opinion. As for what I would do with it on a ride, I've carried one for years point to point and put it away at my destination. Stopping for lunch, gas, etc. has never concerned me. Will be much happier when the state of Texas finally issues my CHL........LOL

Depending on your destination, as Keith B. points out, could be risky. And in my humble opinion, what you have been doing was risky. Too risky for me, but not for many others. And if you've done this prior to the MPA it was probably illegal. My only recommendation would to remain as clean as possible until your plastic arrives. No sense in risking losing it before it even arrives.
