When Charles asked me to become the State Volunteer Coordinator for the TSRA, his goal was to develop a corps of people across the state to support his desire to have events across the state that would bring experts together to present useful information to gun owners about a variety of subjects. These events would make the organization visible and accessible to more people and would support the current membership and bring in new members. The volunteer corps would also provide personnel to the regional directors and support their activities.
As Charles and I defined what he wanted it became obvious that we needed a network of human resources, made up of TSRA members willing to volunteer for events. The plan is to develop a list of people across the state willing to volunteer to support the TSRA as necessary. Once the specific event is over, the member’s name would be placed back into the resource pool until the next need. In this way, people would not volunteer for an indeterminate period of time, they would only serve for a short duration and a specific task.
We are looking for three types of people in this pool. The first is people who are willing to support the TSRA in a general capacity. These people are willing to come to an event and hand out membership applications, help with general logistics and any other tasks that need doing. This would be the majority of the people in the pool and would be the backbone of the effort.
The second type of person would possess specific skills or talents to support an event. These people could be photographers, videographers, writers, or others who would be willing to use their skills to publicize the event and report on the effort. These people would garner support prior to the event and report on the impact of the event.
The third type of person would be gun shop owners, or people who had access to a facility where the event could be held. These people would work with the TSRA staff to schedule and coordinate the event.
All three groups represented in the resource pool are critical to the success of the effort to increase the visibility, accessibility and relevance of the TRSA. Each group would provide valuable service when asked to volunteer.
The first step in this program is to develop the resource pool. We need people from across the state, in all three of the categories to step forward and submit their name into the pool. There is no commitment needed at this time other than to say you are available. When planning begins for an event, an email request will go to pool members in the area of the planned event. If available, you will be asked to participate. If not, you will remain in the pool until another event is planned.
If you are interested in making yourself available to support TSRA events please send an email to svc@tsra.com with your name, phone number, city/county, any special skills or talents and if you are a range owner. You will receive a welcome email, confirming receipt of your information. When an event is planned, you will be given an opportunity to participate.
I am excited about this program and how it can support our TSRA as we broaden and grow across the state of Texas. Your support is greatly appreciated.
Steve
