FTF Sale
I don't know if I can post this here, but I just sold something on Gunbroker last night and the buyer wants to do a FTF here in houston. I've never done this before and any suggestions as to how it should go down would be appreciated. Feel free to PM me.

Everybody has ideas about this: http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=24485" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
What I would do is arrange to meet at a range. That way, nobody will spook at the sight of two men with a gun. Also, the buyer can try the gun if he wants. Exchange cell phone numbers in case either of you is delayed. See that his vehicle has Texas plates. Swap money for gun. Shake hands. Chat about the weather.
Any further documentation or identification is up to you.

Re: FTF Sale
I just noticed the "form" in the link posted above, and the qualifying statement for the purchaser was a bit confusing with the double negative wording:
"I truthfully state that I AM NOT a person who cannot legally buy, receive, and posses firearms and/or ammunition"
I'm slow I suppose... I had to read it three times to get the meaning.

It's not gun control that we need, it's soul control!

You are not incorrect in your interpretation of the statement.mr surveyor wrote:I just noticed the "form" in the link posted above, and the qualifying statement for the purchaser was a bit confusing with the double negative wording:

Re: FTF Sale
In a face to face sell, I would walk away from the sale before I trusted a person I don't know with such personal information about me. Not to mention the very idea of having a fellow gun owner adding to the already much to restrictive laws concerning the sale of a firearm just making my skin crawl. That bill of sale is nothing short of a violation of the RKBA. The guy buying the gun might want a signed receipt saying he bought it from you, but again...asking for DL numbers and such is ridiculous.
Most of us here believe in the RKBA...but it seems as though a few here believe the RKBA only applies to them or the folks they approve of. The law requires no such forms be filled out in a private party transaction and the law DOES NOT hold you responsible for what someone else does with a gun you sold them. It is not even your responsibility to verify they are not a felon...not even a little bit. The only thing the law requires is that you do not sell a gun to someone you KNOW is a felon.
The government is bad enough about restricting our gun rights. The last thing we should be doing is volunteering further restrictions. I think meeting at a range or other public location is a good idea....for the obvious reason of not wanting to get rolled by a person working under false pretenses.

God Bless Texas!
The RKBA is so strongly defended and protected, not like where I came from 2 years ago.
I totally understand what your saying, but since I am a newbie at this I just wanted to keep all bases covered. My main concern when posting this question was literally how not to get "rolled", as this wasn't a $200 deal and I was very concerned about meeting someone I did not know. I have in the past done trades FTF with no type of BOS, but it was with someone I knew well. I for some reason simply felt better about it this time. And it's not like the guy couldn't or didn't lie when signing it, it's not like I called it into the ATF.

Re: FTF Sale
As a further thing you can do; if I do a FTF sale with someone I am unfamiliar with, I will ask for a CHL or drivers license. However, I don't write down their personal information, just the number of the CHL or DL. That way the only way I can find out about their address is if I have a really good photographic memory (I don't) or in the case there is an issue and law enforcement has to get involved.
