Be prepared to give a "range report" on the meeting. I will really like to hear about it.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Promise Keepers is a Christ-centered organization dedicated to introducing men to Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord; and then helping them to grow as Christians. This is mainly accomplished through our Seven Promises and our men's conference ministry. Millions of men have participated since 1990 when PK first began.cyphur wrote:Please forgive my ignorance, but what is this?
The 7 promises;
1.
Promise Keeper is committed to honoring Jesus Christ through worship, prayer and obedience to God's Word in the power of the Holy Spirit.
2.
A Promise Keeper is committed to pursuing vital relationships with a few other men, understanding that he needs brothers to help him keep his promises.
3.
A Promise Keeper is committed to practicing spiritual, moral, ethical, and sexual purity.
4.
A Promise Keeper is committed to building strong marriages and families through love, protection and biblical values.
5.
A Promise Keeper is committed to supporting the mission of his church by honoring and praying for his pastor, and by actively giving his time and resources.
6.
A Promise Keeper is committed to reaching beyond any racial and denominational barriers to demonstrate the power of biblical unity.
7.
A Promise Keeper is committed to influencing his world, being obedient to the Great Commandment (see Mark 12:30-31) and the Great Commission (see Matthew 28:19-20).
Mark 12:30-31
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. (NIV)
Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (NIV)
My first PK conference is what really solidified my belief and understanding that Christian men did not have to be meek, weak or less than manly men. I embarrasingly admit that as a Christian, I was always a little worried that being one carried a stigma of being less than manly. You know, real men; soldiers, cops, firefighters, martial artists, leaders, etc.
A friend who was a 3rd degree black belt in TaeKwondo taught at my TKD school. Matt and I became good friends. Matt grew up in the streets of Chicago, a little hoodlum and trouble maker. Matt was also a world champion TKD winner, no wuss by any means. He invited me to my first PK rally in 2002.
Seeing him and other men I respected as men really opened my eyes. Todd (lets roll) Beemer was a PKer. Lt Colonel Danny McNight (Tom Sizemore's Character in Blackhawk Down) is and was a PKer. I saw 16,000 men sing "How Great Thou Art" a capella. It was one of the most moving and life changing experiences I have ever had.
PK has received some criticism, mostly from liberal, left wing, womens lib and groups that abhor traditional beliefs. I find it refreshing and uplifting, and quite humbling.

Nowhere do the scriptures call for us to be weak. Christians are admonished to be "humble". There are those that owing to circumstance.. are "meek" in the sense that they are (downtrodden), but a man that chooses to be meek/humble/reserved.. rather than be domineering over others, is a man who has my respect. I see his strength...even though he chooses to keep it hidden.
So.....theres my sermon for today.

And I like 1911's (gun content).

Tx,
I might attend this. I have read a great deal about promise keepers and spoken to the leader of my bible study who has attended many times. There is one speaker that he really loves and considers a role model.
To keep this official...I will be carrying a Glock!

When PK first started and came to national attention (soon after the group started, since the growth was explosive), there was a lot of criticism. Many people wanted to paint PKers as a bunch of neaderthals seeking to return women to the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant.
Of course the actual truth is that PKers pay more positive attention to their wives and children than men in general. That's what the name means: keeping the promise they made when they took the wedding vows, as well as the promise they made when they chose to accept Jesus.
The best proof of this was when the PK wives started their own organization: Promise Reapers. They know they and their children are first to benefit when a man keeps his solemn vows.
I'm not an active member of PK, but I have been to several local rallies.

I find it "refreshing and uplifting" to see this sort of thread on the internet instead of all the trash that abounds!
Follow Jesus.
