Prison Parking Lot

Post by texas1234 »

Can you leave a firearm in your vehice in a prison parking lot? There is not gate entry or guard entry to the parking lot.

You can as long as it is not on the day of an execution and you are within 1000 feet of it.

Fun fact about Texas executions:

In the old days, a death penalty was carried out in the county
in which the crime was committed.

At some point, the Texas Legislature decided that all executions
would be carried out in Huntsville.

So if your loved ones are in any prison outside of Huntsville, you
will never have to check the execution schedule and leave your
gun at home.

No you can not. And your vehicle can be searched, and they actually should be doing that during visitation.

They cannot prohibit you from having a firearm it in your vehicle in the parking lot. As long as it is a state facility and not federal, they are state government facilities and must abide by the statutes. Now, they can prohibit you from entering the facility secured area, but not the parking lot.

I know you used to work at one, but the law is the law, whether they followed it or not.

I worked at one as well....I found that the unit Warden's decisions held alot more weight than the law. We searched vehicles and did not allow guns to enter the property, but that was over 10 years ago.

I witnessed a few verbal confrontations between CO's and visiting family members, but the bottom line was what the warden had ordered. The further you get into the rural TDCJ unit settings......the less policy or law is followed in my personal experience.

Seems like TDCJ might finally be answering up for their shortcomings. I would like to go on the record as saying they are getting what they asked for.

Well, I don't know where you put your Johnny Cash tape, but if you want to hear that song, you can borrow my David Allan Coe tape with it.
