Hobby Airport
I have to take my daughter to catch a plane at Hobby this afternoon. Am I correct that i can carry in anypart of the airport except the boarding area. Are there other places that are off limits.

I asked my parents the other day - they both work Operations for TSA - and they said that you can carry in the unsecure area of the airport. Most times I've seen baggage claim on the unsecure side, as well as all check-in counters.
No carry in the secure side, even for most LEOs I was told(apparently need a special badge qualification to carry back there).

My understanding is that unless an area or building is restricted by 30.06, you are free to carry your handgun as long as no secure areas are entered. In Hobby it would be hard to do this without it being very clear. FWIW, I have picked people up at Hobby a couple of hundred times and had my gun legally outside of the terminal gate.
Hobby is an easy airport to legally carry your gun in.
Take care,
Jason

I thought I would be OK, but having never been there, I didn't know the set up. I appreciate the info.

Carry outside the secured area of airport
Even if they had a 30.06, 'you cannot be prosecuted for carrying in any building owned or leased by a governement entity.' I assume an airport is owned or leased by a government entity.

That is a good point. I did a little bit of reading and the city of Houston does apparently own and operate all of the airports in the area. I really thought they belonged to private industry. Thank you for pointing this out. Here is an article I found on the subject of ownership....

Talking about outside the secure area correct....b/c beyond that and into sterile zone...Federal laws prevail I believe...However, not a lawyer...but, just would make sense.switch wrote:Even if they had a 30.06, 'you cannot be prosecuted for carrying in any building owned or leased by a governement entity.' Had a friend (female) who accidentally carried in her rev. into Screening/Security....she was helping her aged Mother ...n frankly lost track of everything...and ended up in handcuffs and no TX CHL anymore.
