Anybody have a Rorhbaugh you can brag about?

Post by drjoker »

Is the Rohrbaugh just a myth like the Seacamp? About a decade ago (oh I feel old), all the gun mags were raving about the Seacamp pistols, but they were just a myth. I NEVER saw one at a gun store nor at any gun shows. Now, everyone is raving about the Rohrbaughs, but I have NEVER seen one.

So, does anybody actually own one? What is it like? How much have you shot it? Is it reliable? Is it accurate and easy to shoot? I've heard that the Rohrbaugh 9mm is not very durable. It will shoot something like 250 rounds and then it will need maintenance of some sort (replace spring? pin? I forget). Is this true? Does it hurt your hand? The Kel-Tec P3AT hurts like heck. I cannot shoot more than 20 rounds because my thumb feels like it has been dislocated!

Or does nobody own one and it is a myth like the Seacamp?

National Rifleman Feb 2010 says that it is the ONLY subcompact pocket 380 pistol that does not jam with a variety of ammo after firing 250 shots. They tested ALL the 380 pocket guns except for the Diamondback db380.

Thanks for the info,

I've held one. It's not a myth.

I don't think I could have fired it without the slide biting me, and my hands aren't particularly large.

The Seacamp's and Rohrbaugh's do exist. I personally have held both, but not shot one. I do know that there are folks on here that own them and they seem to like them.

As for hurting your hand, you have to realize that any small framed pistol will have a LOT of recoil as there is no weight to help offset the force of the round being fired. The difference in comfort I have found in pocket pistols is mainly the shape of the pistol grip and the smoothness of the checkering and back strap. For instance, the Kel-Tec PF9 has a much rougher grip checkering and less rounded break-over on my thumb than my Kahr PM9 has. The PM9 is more comfortable to me than the PF9. Others have stated they have no problems with the PF9, so it probably has to do with the shape of their hands and how strong their grip, wrist and other things are.

When you move down to the even smaller .380 and .32 pistols, you have an even smaller frame and grip, so shooting defense rounds from them with higher recoil is normally going to be tougher.

I carry a Rohrbach R9S every day. Great gun. Dealers don't stock because the expense is too much for many folks. It needs a powerful recoil spring to absorb the recoil in such a small gun so they reccomend one changes the spring often. I carry mine a lot and shoot it seldom.

I don't have a Rohrbaugh but I'm allowed to own one if I want to.

Seacamps are not myths either. I have one and often pocket carry it. I have shot a bunch of pocket carry guns. They all hurt to shoot, even my Colt vest pocket .25. The problem is that they are small. On the other hand, that is why they fit in your pocket. I consider them carry a lot, shoot little guns.

Our friend Tom Watson in the Dallas area is an authorized dealer for Rorhbaughs and Seecamps; his site shows he currently has NIB two-tone R9s and K380 in stock. He posted today on the Seecamp forum he has (2) .32s with consecutive serial numbers in stock. (Irish Guard Firearms, LTD. ).

We were at the Market Hall gunshow last month and I also saw new R9s & Seecamps on the Bachman and AJC Sports also had a .32 Seecamp on his table

The NRA American Rifleman mag had reviews on a bunch of pocket 380s. The Rorhbaugh was one. My local has a Secamp in stock too.
