interesting statement by cop after parking lot rage incident

Post by nitrogen »

readers digest version: Crazy lady runs into kroger after me, grabbing me because "I stole her parking spot"
So I call the Sachse PD, and they come out and talk to me and the crazy lady, no citations or anything.

something the cop said do the crazy lady really bothered me, though.

"This man had a concealed handgun license. Luckelly, he didn't pull his gun on you like some kind of crazy person. it happens all the time, i've seen it every day, and you're lucky you didn't get shot."

That bothered me. Do you think I took it too seirously?

No, not at all. First off, I don't like people knowing about my CHL license. Only my girlfriend and parents know I have it and that's all that will ever know unless the unfortunate situation happens.

Second off, You had no just cause to really shoot her so he shouldn't have said she is lucky to not get shot. She wasn't wielding a knife or pointing a gun at you.

Third off, He said that she was lucky you didn't pull your firearm like a crazy person. When in reality, you NOT being a crazy person was what kept the gun from being drawn.

That's just how I see it though. That just comes off to me as a really loose statement he made that I wouldn't expect from an officer.

Uhh, yeah the cop is false in what he said, BUT, he said this to stop the crazy woman from being so damn crazy all the time.

I can assure you that police do not see people shot by CHL holders all the time.

Most likely he just said this so the woman will think twice about being confrontational/violent over stupid things like this.

:iagree: Even though the decision by the cop to reveal your CHL status etc. was a poor example of police work, it WAS a EASY
way for him to make the woman think twice before going nuts on someone. I don't agree with the officers use of your info, but I
can understand his attempt at making a point with "the crazy lady". I think the officer made a mistake, but I don't believe it
was intentionally meant to harm you in any way.

And correct me when I'm wrong, but even the DPS information is limited to statistical data. Number of permits per zip code/demographic as an example.

Yes sir, That is correct I think. However, there was one or two agencies they are obligated to release all info. to I think.

I agree that this was probably his motive. It may have not been the most professional thing to say, but I wouldn't read anything else into it.

In my opinion, the officer was totally out of line with everything he was said to have stated. From the account given, I think the officer should be in line for a bit of re-training. To totally mis-lead a citizen, crazy or not, on the "possibilities" of events, or events he claims to see everyday, should be just cause for a reprimand.

:iagree: There was nothing correct in the way the Officer handled this situation. I suspect he was trying to defuse the situation with some humor, but that was not the right comment to make. First revealing that you have your CHL and second leaving a citizen with the impression they could get shot by a CHL holder. :nono:
