Yes, thanks! I like that first stat cited.
Two questions:
1) How did the officers know that the new armed guy on the scene was a GG?
2) How long ago was that report from the Houston Post?

Something is not right with those accounts. There is no Houston Post. The Post was last published in 1995.
" Povia, a right-to-carry permit holder, pulled over and grabbed his .40 cal. pistol and went to the aid of the officer. The two held the men until backup arrived."
What officer would just allow a passserby to come armed and "help" him detain suspects until backup arrived. The cop would probably shoot the GG when he saw him approach armed. But then again, maybe he had a CCW banner and the cop knew he was a GG.

Note that the examples from the Post do not have a date and do not mention a license. One was going to the range when he stopped, for example.JJVP wrote:Something is not right with those accounts. There is no Houston Post. The Post was last published in 1995.
I agree that this kind of bothers me, but I don't have enough info to say it is false either. he might have been in uniform as a security guard, for example." Overall, I am confident that there have been cases of armed citizens helping cops in trouble. I am sure there is more than just what was in the list also, especially since I did not see the famous west Texas DPS case mentioned. I don't have enough info to trust these reports, but I tend to since I know it has happened in the past and pray it will continue to happen in the future.

Re: Interesting link
Sorry, there was a case where a DPS Trooper Long got shot on a stop and a hunter used his rifle to kill the bad guy. Here is one reference to it if you scroll down to the paragraph that starts "an unidentified NRA member". http://www.nraila.org/Issues/Articles/R ... &issue=003" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This story is pretty famous among cops and a lot of gun people. There are quite a few versions of it, including that DPS did give the hunter an award. I thought he had saved the trooper's life, but this note says I was wrong about that.
