New G19...and need sights
I just picked up a new Glock 19 and plan to upgrade the sights. Once I decide on exactly what I want, is there a recommended shop or smith in the Frisco, Plano area to do the installation? Thanks!

Re: New G19...and need sights
I don't know about a shop in the Frisco area, but I can tell you that my wife's G19 came from the factory with Trijicon night sights installed, and they are nice and bright. I bought a set from Midway for my H&K USP Compact. They were well worth the price. Nice and bright at night, proper sized dots for day use, and not all that expensive.

Glock sights are fairly easy to change if you have a sight pusher. I would think any shop with a gun smith could do the job. I bought the Trijicons for all my Glocks. You can buy them here at a good price. http://www.ombexpress.com/c_211/p_GA082+940.aspx" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Afff_667 wrote:I just picked up a new Glock 19 and plan to upgrade the sights. I have a sight pusher and front sight tool. It does not take long to change them out. I am Irving if you would like to change them out. I would go with the XS Big Dot 24/7 sight.Afff_667 wrote:I just picked up a new Glock 19 and plan to upgrade the sights. be sure to get different color front and back sights or you will have difficulty telling them apart.

Re: New G19...and need sights
The big dot sights are fine for some folks, just be aware that they will blot out more of the bulls eye when at the range. In a self defense situation it probably won't matter much, but I had a set of those that I hated for this reason. They bugged the heck out of me. I felt like I was using a gun designed for the visually impaired. I was afraid my next purchase would be a jitter bug phone. All kidding aside...be careful when going for a radical change in sights, you may not like them and most places won't give refunds. If you could find someone with the big dot sights to let you try them before you buy them would be a great idea. You might like the big dot sight better, but then again...you might not.
I was tempted to try the two different colored sight set up, but the cost of the sights usually went up when buying them separate. I have never had trouble confusing my front and rear sights so it didn't make sense for me to do this. I am not real sure how the three different dots can blend together. I focus on the front sight dot and with it being the center one it looks quite distinctive from the ones on each side of it. maybe the big dot is more likely to create this problem. i don't remember my big dot blending in, but maybe it does for some folks.

Be sure to get your old sights back, too. I ordered night sights from the Bullet Trap in Plano. They installed them, but kept the original Glock sights. Now, I discovered that I don't like the night sights, but I have no dogone original sights to re-install. Argh....!
After a couple of decades, the nights sights will fade, so you might desire the original sights after 20 years or so....

Re: New G19...and need sights
Are the sights on your Glock fairly new? I am looking for a Glock 23 and might be interested in swapping the factory sights with you for your night sights. I live in the Plano area and go to Bullet Trap to shoot a quite often. I am not in a big hurry to make my purchase so if you want to think about it, no problem. I have a sight pusher and could do the swap in 15 or 20 minutes. Oh yeah... I guess I should ask what flavor night sights you have.drjoker wrote:Be sure to get your old sights back, too. Re: New G19...and need sights
I've heard this many times but have never experienced it in the 30 years I've been using night sights. It may be related to differences in eyesight.drjoker wrote:be sure to get different color front and back sights or you will have difficulty telling them apart.
Keep in mind that night sights in colors other than green also have a shorter life than the green ones - some markedly so. I tried the color mix route and dumped it after finding the other colors (if I recall I used yellow and red) faded disappointingly quickly to the point that I had to concentrate to pick them out, making them not much better than standard sights. YMMV

Re: New G19...and need sights
I have the factory Glock night sights on two of my G17 and G27 and absolutely love them. I never understood peoples reasoning behind using a different color for the front site. I have not trouble lining them up.
Re: New G19...and need sights
The reasoning behind a different color front and back sight is make it easier to pick up and focus on the front sight.
I don't think it is really an issue for shooters to tell which is the front sight and which is the back sight. If it were I don't believe the popular white three dot sights would have stayed on the market.

Re: New G19...and need sights
At night you can get confused which is the front sight and which are the rear sights. So instead of this:
R F R
you can aim like this:
F R R or R R F
This is usually not a problem under "ideal" circumstances where you are in good stance with two hands on a gun. But put yourself off balance aiming with one hand and this problem can easily happen.
Personally I use XS BIG Dots.

Re: New G19...and need sights
I have never gotten confused about my sights... night or day. Because of this I can tell you that it is not something that happens to everyone. I have no doubt it happens to some folks as it has been brought up on this thread a couple times now. This would be why there are different styles of sights. Thank goodness for that. Smart money would find a way to try different styles before making the final purchase but I am not real sure how one would accomplish that unless they were to have friends with different styles who would allow some test shooting. Like I said above, I did it the stupid way and purchased and installed the big dot front sight. For me it blotted out too muuch of the target center. I hated that thing and basically threw away my money on that experiment. My Kahr came with a bar rear sight that drove me nuts. Some folks like the bar rear... I hated it and I installed some meprolights. Much better. Just like guns, everyone has different tastes in sights.
