Number of Guns in Trunk?
I know this is probably a stupid question, but is there any law in TX covering how many guns I can transport in the trunk of my car to and from the range? I like to take 3 or 4 pistols and lots of loaded magazines (to avoid reloading too much) in my range bag. I never thought about it before, but now as a new CHL, I guess I'm being a bit more cautious, or perhaps - paranoid???

Re: Number of Guns in Trunk?
There's no such thing as asking a stupid question. The only stupid question there is, is one that is not asked.
No. There's no limit to the number of guns you can have in your trunk....at least not to my knowledge.
I used to set up at the major gun shows here in the DFW Metroplex about 8-10 times/year, and routinely carried 12-30 guns with me in the car. The police were in the unloading area and watched all exhibitors unload, and they never said anything to me.
But take that with a grain of salt. That was 25 years ago. Times and laws might have changed since then. But I think I'm correct in saying what I said.

There may be, however, a limit to how many trunk monkeys you can have.bdickens wrote:Texas law does not address this issue.

Nothing addresses this, although it will be an interesting discussion with the officer as to why you have 33 rifles in your trunk

As long as you don't exceed the GVWR of your automobile you should be fine.

Re: Number of Guns in Trunk?
There is an actual legal limitation for this in case you don't know.
On the inside of the doorjam on your vehicle you will find a information plate that contains your car/truck Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). This is the maximum allowable total mass of a road vehicle loaded - including the weight of the vehicle itself plus fuel, passengers, cargo.
Please avoid carrying too much rifles, shotguns and ammo in your trunk so as not to exceed this rating.
EDIT... Dang!! Beat me to it!

Along the lines of why the Ranger was carrying a .45, because I could not fit any more in.nmsu wrote:Nothing addresses this, although it will be an interesting discussion with the officer as to why you have 33 rifles in your trunk

Re: Number of Guns in Trunk?
Well, there's no limit to how many you can carry concealed on your person (with a CHL); so, it would seem logical to me that there'd be no limit to how many you have in your trunk.

Depends on the size of your trunk.G26ster wrote:I know this is probably a stupid question, but is there any law in TX covering how many guns I can transport in the trunk of my car to and from the range? Everyone has told you correctly there is no limit to the amount of guns you carry in your trunk or conceal (with a license). My CHL instructor is a sergeant for the FT. Worth PD and said one of his police officer called him about a guy that he had pulled over that had 7 yes 7 guns concealed. The office had to make sure it was legal for him to conceal that many guns, the sergeant ask the office if could see any of them and he said no. The sergeant said yes he is legal. Gota love
