Buying off gunbroker

"Pulled the trigger" on a Rock Island 1911 off gunbroker.com. I'm curious on how gunbroker works. Do you circumvent the background check? Do you pay state taxes if the dealer you purchased from isn't in Texas? I'm just new to the process.

online firearm sales are completed (transfer) via an FFL. So for the first question, no if you do not have a CHL. If you do, you only do the paper work which you have to do it regardless.
Also, like any internet sales, if the seller is outside Texas, you do not pay taxes.

You don't pay them to the seller if they don't have a Texas Sales and Use tax permit, but you're required to pay Texas.

If seller is not in Texas,you don't need to pay sales tax.You pay the winning bid price + shipping.You need to find a dealer to do transfer for you on your end,after the auction end.You have to ask your dealer to send a signed copy of his/her FFL to seller so seller can send the gun to you after FFL is received of course you also need to take care of payment for your gun.
The dealer who is doing the transfer for you will do back ground check unless you have CHL just like you buy gun at local store without paying sales tax but you do have to pay a transfer fee to the dealer doing transfer for you.

Yeah, I got a FFL lined up but it seems any gun shop will do a transfer...for a fee. :)

Best way is to use their FFL network to make the transfer. That way they are already set up wit the dealers on Gunbroker.

Back to the OP: Gunbroker is great, but you do have to go through an FFL to get it transferred. The seller sends it to your FFL (be sure your FFL accepts txfrs from private parties...some don't) and you pick it up there (after filling out your 4473).

No afraid not. I have found many that for whatever reason say they don't want to fool with it. Even had one to say it was illegal for him to do a transfer
We have one in town that will do it for $50 as they know it will discourage it but if willing to pay it will go ahead.

I have bought and sold many a gun on gun broker. Some dealers have an issue with accepting guns from non-FFLS. Usually Yankee dealers. Others have no issue with it at all... usually true American FFL's . It is law that the weapon must be shipped to an FFL. The law does not require the shipper be an FFL. If shipping a handgun it usually ends up cheaper to just use a FFL to ship because the postage cost are high without one.

Which part of Houston are you at,I use one in NW side of town close to HWY 6 and FM 529.$15 if you don't have CHL,$10 if you do have CHL.
