Teacher Shot Dead At Tacoma School

TACOMA, Wash. -- A female teacher has been shot and killed at an elementary school in Tacoma.

The shooting occurred at Birney Elementary School at 1202 S. 76th St.

KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reporter Alison Grande said there were few, if any, kids on campus at the time of the shooting because it happened before school started for the day.

Tacoma fire arrived at about 7:36 a.m. but could not revive the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, who fled the scene, was fatally shot by police a few blocks from the school at 166th and Canyon.

Grande says she saw teachers hugging each other, an ambulance and yellow tape up at the scene.

Twitter posts are saying the suspect has been shot and it was a domestic violence related.
