Does anyone do this?

Post by Bonc_CHL »

About half way down the page it talks about loading your magazine with a few live rounds and a few snap caps. Just seeing what everyone thought about doing this?

Yes. Excellent advice.

Very good drills for malfunction practice & trigger control.

Clear the malfunction when you get a click.

Watch for flinch of anticipated recoil.

don't do it all that often w/ a semi auto but I do the empty charge holes drill w/ the revolvers, I call it "odd man out" drill. (should be odd men out...). great tool.
picked up a buckmark .22 purely for trigger work too

I do this. I also put an empty shell casing standing on the barrel and see if I can dry fire w/o it falling off.

I also like this idea: run a mini obstacle course inside my house, do some pushups or whatever to get amped up, turn on loud music and get my stress up, and then practice deploying my duty gun and then SLOWING DOWN and making slow, smooth, dry fire hits.

This is pretty standard training for law enforcement, with a slight twist. We have the officer doing the firing give his magazines and ammo to a coach officer. The coach loads the magazines with a mizture of live and up to three dummy rounds, then puts one magazine in the weapon. The shooting officer has no idea when or how many dummy rounds are in the two magazines.

As already pointed out, it is a great way to test for both flinching and malfunction clearance.

+1

Since I just bought a 5-pack of .45 snap caps to be shared by my XD and M&P, it's time to train! :fire
