Hi folks. My middle daughter just got her CHL last month and we have been shopping around for a carry pistol for her. We have narrowed down to an XD9 Subcompact. She would like to get a bit more familiar with it before purchase. One of our options is to go to Red's in Pflugerville and rent one on Ladies' Day but they only have a 4". No big deal but she is also interested in how it would feel in an IWB holster. I have an IWB Comp-tac for my Glock 30 and could maybe adapt it "to work".
My thoughts are that if someone in the Austin area were so kindly inclined perhaps she could holster and fire one from someone who carries one regularly and perhaps discuss the pros and cons of that particular pistol.
I (we) would be happy to exchange a beverage, or a meal or a box of 9mm for the pleasure of your and your pistol's company for an hour or so.
Also, if you have one you wish to sell with all the gear etc, perhaps we could discuss that too. I guess that discussion would include WHY you want to sell.
She is familiar with pistols. I bought her a Glock 17 to learn on and it has been very good for that. I am going to buy it back from her for what I paid for it...gosh, did she see me coming or what. She drives a tough bargin.
On a side note, it is really nice to have a daughter who can and will qualify for a CHL. We did good on that one. Youngest daughter is close to getting hers and will probably want the same deal. SHEESH! it's gonna break me someday.
Thanks for your attention. and before you ask, NO, I won't make the same deal for you.

I have a 40XD SC, if you are interested in trying that, I also have a Comp-Tac on the way

Has she considered trying out a Glock 26 - since she's familiar with Glock already? I absolutely love my G26
and while I also have a Glock 19, I believe I'm actually more accurate with the 26 under 15 yards out... Wish I had purchased the Glock 26 first and waited a bit before deciding to purchase the 19.
I do think that if I weren't carrying the Glock in holster (perhaps wife carrying in purse instead), I'd probably have considered the XD due to additional palm safety. But if planning to carry in holster itself, I'd seriously give Glock 26 consideration in comparisons. I believe Red's has the Glock 26 for rent.

Slight thread hijack ... I've found the same situation with my G27 vs. G23, slightly more accurate with G27G26TR wrote:I believe I'm actually more accurate with the 26 under 15 yards out

Thanks. For now I think she is focused on the 9mm. She wants to feel the recoil of that round and the .40 in a subcompact might be a bit different that what she is used to. She is already going from a full size G17 to a subcompact. I appreciate the thought
Excellent suggestion and logic.G26TR wrote:Has she considered trying out a Glock 26 - since she's familiar with Glock already? I absolutely love my G26.
She handled the G26. It, and the G17, are just a bit more full in her hand than she prefers. It was never an issue as far as her shooting it but when she first picked up the XD9, she made the comment "now that feels really good". Since it will be her's she needs to be the one who decides. I would hope that she carries it as much as she can and having it be comfortable 'for her' is one way to help ensure that.

She may even consider getting the XD40sc and also purchasing a conversion barrel to 9mm. That way she would have both calibers as an option. I don't think you can convert the 9mm to a .40 though.
