FINGER PRINTING EARLY ?

Post by sjones »

I'm not due for renewal until october,it will be my 3rd time. Can I get my prints taken even before I get my paperwork?I had problems the last time.I had to have them done 2 separate times. This time I'm going to go with the digital prints, hoping it will be better.
Also I heard that some parts of the process can be left out the third time,is this true and if so what parts are they ? thanks guys. sj

I can't really help on the questions. I am due for renewal next year I believe so am interested.

I recall hearing the TSRA mention that one of the future CHL changes they might push for is removing the fingerprint requirement. I get the impression a lot of people are having trouble with rejected fingerprints.

As far as I can tell, there is no time limit on when the fingerprints (or photographs) can be taken. The state regulations are here.

However, it is possible that the FBI has a requirement that I am not aware of. Perhaps one of the instructors here will know. Otherwise I suggest calling DPS.

On a third renewal, you can skip the classroom and shooting qualification.

However, many instructors offer a third-renewal class at a reduced rate. This give you the opportunity to catch up on any recent changes to the law that you might have overlooked.
