Front Sight Fell Off
A friend just bought a new Beretta Storm PX4 Subcompact. After shooting about 20 rounds, he noticed his sight picture had suddenly changed. Looking at the slide he found that the front sight was missing. Fortunately, he found it in the grass.
Has any one else experienced this? I thought that the sights would be press-fit into the slide, rather than loose.

Luigi must have gotten into the grappa again during the assembly phase.

Wow, sounds like the manufacturer's QC was lacking on that unit.
It has never happened to me before, to answer your question. I have changed my sights before, sometimes using either a dedicated sight pusher or a hammer and brass punch. I always applied some type of threadlocker, either on the dovetail surfaces or the screws.
Your friend could try to use threadlocker to cement his sight in place, but I worry that this would be only a temporary solution. He could try to obtain a new front sight on his own and install it himself or get a local gunsmith to install it, or enquire whether the manufacturer would make things right without your friend sustaining any out-of-pocket costs.

Re: Front Sight Fell Off
Bill,
The sight should be a tight press fit. If the sight is loose in the dovetail cut two things can be done. First, take a center punch and "dimple" the dovetail area on the slide and "dimple" the underside of the sight. This will raise the surface of the metal and tighten the fit. Second, tap the edge of the dovetail cut on the slide bending it down ever so slightly. If you do both the sight should be a drive/press fit on the slide. Assemble the sight to the slide using RED locktite you should be good to go. If you or your friend are queasy about this procedure any competent gunsmith can do it for you usually for an hour's labor charge.

Re: Front Sight Fell Off
If he bought it new, Beretta needs to be fixing it for free and paying shipping both ways. He should call them and make them do it.

This is a known problem with the PX-4 subcompact. Has been discussed ad nauseam on the Beretta forum. Beretta will fix it.WildBill wrote:A friend just bought a new Beretta Storm PX4 Subcompact. Thanks for the feed-back folks. It is brand new so it will be sent back to Berreta for repair. BTW prior to posting. I did do a quick search to see if this was a known problem, but didn't see anything. I do not a Berreta, so I wasn't really familiar with their forum.

Don't feel bad I was looking at a brand new Glock 19 one day at Academy and it didn't even have the rear sight on it at all.

I hope they don't go too far in the opposite direction, like Kahr did.
