Do I need a new carry gun
I have an xd40 s/c. I have been looking at kimber guns and they look pretty thin. My questions
1) as a bigger guy, will I be able to carry the xd concealed?
2) is a kimber that much thinner than the xd?
3) what is the best place to buy a kimber? Price is not really an issue, just need variety to choose from.
I appreciate any help you guys can offer. I'm getting pretty close to plastic, I hope, and want to be ready.

Re: Do I need a new carry gun
yes, you can easily conceal it IWB and OWB with the right length clothing.Fire1141 wrote:will I be able to carry the xd concealed?
While I do not have an XD, I do have my Taurus pT111 which is a very similar size as the XD and my wife asked me today where it was, I asked her to guess and thats all she could do, she didn't have a clue when she was obviously looking for it. So anyone not familiar with me, would not have a clue.
I have also seen a few Glock 17s fully concealed, and they are larger than the XD s/c
So get another weapon if you want, but it would not be necessary for concealment, as what you have is good for that.
If you do get another and want to sell your XD... hmmm.. give me a shout LOL

No no no. I love my xd. I was looking at the difference in width and the xd looks way wider than the kimber. That's all. I trust my xd. I will be getting a kimber, just didn't know if I would have better luck concealing the kimber than the xd.

Fire1141:
No, you don't NEED a new gun.
You WANT a new gun.
Your current XDSC40 is a fine gun with a 3" barrel.
If you get a Kimber 1911 with a 3" barrel, it would be
thinner in the grip due to being a single stack, but you
would be losing round count. Some 1911-owning forum members have
expressed the opinion that 3" 1911's aren't as good as
the 4" and 5" models.
If you get a Kimber in 4" or 5" barrel, it would probably
be marginally thinner than the XD, but then you would have
a longer barrel. Better for accuracy, but a bit more to conceal.
Pro: You move up to .45. CON: Lower round count than the XD.

Yes, you will have an easier time concealing a 1911 pattern pistol than another type of pistol of relatively the same size. In other words, you will be able to conceal a 3" Kimber more easily than you can conceal your XD. That said, you should have no trouble concealing your XD (I am a "hefty" guy myself). Get the Kimber if that is what makes you happy. BTW, I carry a 3" Kimber. And a 5" Springfield Loaded. Because I like 1911s, not because I think the XD is an inferior pistol.Fire1141 wrote:No no no. Re: Do I need a new carry gun
No, you absolutely can NOT conceal an XD40-SC. You need the Kimber in order to be able to carry.
No need to thank me, glad to help.
(Never mind that I carry an XD9-SC... that sounded pretty convincing, didn't it? Just trying to give you a good excuse to buy a new gun!

THanks, addylo. I'll show my wife your post and maybe that'll seal the deal for the kimber.

Where are you located?Fire1141 wrote: 3) what is the best place to buy a kimber? Price is not really an issue, just need variety to choose from.
I just purchased a new Kimber Custom II for well under $700
I had no problem packin a XD40sc IWB but I went with the 1911 because it's noticeably thinner.
