Small pistol primers for 45acp

Post by GOP »

Anybody load Speer cases that use the small pistol primers in 45acp? I have several, but I'm incline to toss them out as they just seem to be a pain, especially when they get mixed in with my brass.
Carry guns:
SIG P239 in 357sig
SIG P239 in 40sw
SIG P220
SIG GSR 1911
All with Crimson Trace Laser Grips

I haven't reloaded any as of yet, but I do have a couple hundred set aside for an experiment someday.

There was an article in Handloader Magazine last month or so regarding this very thing. Interestingly enough, the final results indicated more consistent chrono results on the SPP loads than the LPP loads, all other things being equal.

My chief complaint is that I occasionally miss a SPP case, and it is never particularly happy in my progressive press!!!

I have loaded several batches of the 45 acp small primer brass. They work just fine.

I came across some from some range brass I collected. Wasn't quite sure what to think of it. I only reload 45 and had no SPP so I just threw them out LOL.

Any difference in the FPS? Have you chrono'd these loads?

Am I correct to believe that you would use the same grains as LPP?
