Gunsmith to modify a front sight in DFW?

Winchester Gallery in Ft.Worth has a full time gunsmith in his own shop. I haven't used him though.

There is a gunsmith shop downstairs next to the 100 yard rifle tube at the Basspro in Grapevine, but I'm not sure how good they are. I once had them drift a rear site for me a little bit when I was shooting in the handgun range.

I'm guessing they said they couldn't do it? That kind of surprises me.

Can you even buy those separately? Is there not a factory sight available?

Yes, although they're a bit of a pain to get shipped from Europe.

There's no factory option - I think I was lucky to get a spare front sight from the distributors, which they kindly sent me at no charge. Other manufacturers can't help, as the dovetail cut is 15-thou deeper than Novak's, as an example.

Rays is a great shop with a lot of history. That is where Jack Ruby bought the Colt that he shot Lee Harvey Oswald with.

"On Singleton Boulevard in West Dallas, Ray's Hardware and Sporting Goods is still run by the family of Lawrence Brantley, who sold the gun to Ruby in January 1960.

"We've still got the sale recorded in our log," said Reid Durbin, Mr. Brantley's grandson.

His grandfather, who died in 1996, remembered the sale, telling family members that the nightclub owner was a frequent customer and arrived in the shop that day accompanied by a Dallas police officer.

Mr. Durbin joked that the resale price was just the result of inflation.

"If it was 18 years since they sold it for $200,000," he said, "that's about what you'd expect with the economy."
