Austin 30.06 or 51% @ Marriott Horseshoe Bay

Post by SecedeTX »

I had planned to go on vacation with three families to the beaches on the redneck riveria in Alabama. We were going to rent two houses (3 families/15 people). Seeing as there is an oil slick in the gulf that shows no sign of stoppin' we are changing our mind on where to vacation.

I looked at Horeshoe Bay by Marriott just outside of Austin. They have private villas that look awesome. Is there anyone here who has been there, and more importantly, are they posted 30.06 or 51%?

There are 4 CHL's among the three families, and this could be a book/no book decision. I checked the 3006 website and did not see them there, but I just wanted to make sure.

Also, having never been there, I have fallen hook line and sinker for the web site, but wanted to know if it lives up to the pictures.

I would e-mail or call them. In that area of the state anything could be posted. That's beautiful country but politically it's a liberal location.

Horseshoe bay is awesome grew up on on LBJ lake during the summers. Marble Falls is just a small Texas Hill country town, if the Marriot is posted it will be because of the Marriot not the town folk.

It is not Austin and it is not really near Austin, its a good hour and half away in the heart of Texas Hill Country.

They are not liberal in that area. Both the State Senator and State Representative are Republican and their Member on the Texas Education Board is Republican. That is ranching and cattle country, wouldnt call Marble Falls a liberal location.

I've never noticed any 30.06 signs there when I took my brother to work there at the Marriott Horsehoe Bay.

I live roughly 16 miles from it .... pretty conservative area and actually I've never seen a 30.06 sign in real life anywhere around here.... Have to go to Austinfornia for that.
Seriously, I can't imagine any villa/hotel/motel posting except for a bar/nightclub area within one posting a 51% as required.
There's a few banks with gunbuster signs so criminals and unlicensed persons aren't allowed to carry Berettas inside, that's all I've seen.
Of Course the gas stations, restaurants with Food/Beverage or off premise consumption have the UNDER 51% TABC BLUE signs up so unlicensed people can't carry there.
There's a nice little gun shop in Horseshoe Bay, closed on Mondays I believe.
Next closest is Bowles Muffler Shop (Actually a muffler Shop/Gun Store) in Marble Falls right across from WalMart.
Next closest to that is probably The Gun Store in Cedar Park on 183 (not 183A).

"rlol" I did :)
Crime is pretty rare here, electricity supplied hydroelectricallly from dams, cheaper than disposing of nuclear wastes ... ammo plentiful at the Burnet hardware store and Marble Falls muffler shop if Walmart is out, even .380  ....
If you enjoy fishing equipment, go to Highlander Restaurant/tackle store in Burnet for the buffet ... Mike there has won Angler of the Year ec, but he'll only talk black bass, not whites nor crappie. (Crappie are good on LBJ right now)

Back in the early 1980s the only grocery store closed at 6 p.m., movie theater opened for 1 show every Friday night .... now it's grown and has multi-cinemas and 24 hour stores and nightclub music and lights to fish under, I moved to an even smaller town, still nearby :tiphat:

Very relaxed atmosphere/towns here.

Them big city tourists always in a hurry get caught speeding though, so take it easy on the pace .... come up here to unwind and relax ... plenty of time to speed up again after vacation is over.
(I retired and moved from Houston Area ... inside loop 610 the pace was faster)

They say you can tell a good place to retire if there's more than one Dollar Store, I think there are 3 :smilelol5:

Nice mix of retirees, and younger working folks, and vacationers.

Just to exemplify it's a pretty nice area ... Mark Seriff' lives in Horsehoe Bay area, (an AOL/America Online founder) retired up here, as do others ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Seriff" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Other famous computer "OLD-TIMERS" did too (like myself, though I'm more famous than Mark, because sometimes I forget his last name, but ALMOST always remember mine.... sometimes).

Horseshoe Bay is fairly up to date on city ordinances (as of 2007)
http://www.horseshoe-bay-tx.gov/website ... REARMS.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Sec. 8 Carrying of Firearms
(a) It shall be unlawful for a person to carry a firearm at a:
(1) public park;
(2) public meeting of the City or any other governmental body;
(3) political rally, parade, or official political meeting; or
(4) non-firearms-related school or athletic event.
(b) It shall be an exception to subsection (a) above if the person is licensed to carry a
concealed handgun under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code.

2006: Resort CEO: Carrying gun to airport a "very serious mistake"

Douglas Jaffe says a family luggage mixup led to his arrest on Thursday for carrying a concealed weapon in a carry-on bag through an airport security checkpoint.

Police at Austin Bergstrom International Airport arrested the 26-year-old Horseshoe Bay Resort CEO on Thursday morning for "unlawfully carrying a weapon in places where weapons prohibited," says Travis County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Roger Wade.

Police transferred Jaffe to the Travis County Sheriff's central booking facility at about 10 a.m. Bond was set at $5,000. Jaffe posted a "personal recognizance bond," Wade says, and was scheduled to be released Thursday afternoon.

The charge is a third-degree felony. If found guilty, authorities say Jaffe could face between two and 10 years in prison, and a fine up to $10,000.

Horseshoe Bay Resort issued a statement Thursday evening saying Jaffe "expressed embarrassment and tremendous regret" about the matter.

The resort says Jaffe was at the airport to catch a flight to San Francisco for business meetings.

The night before, the resort says, he stayed at his parents home in Austin where his brother Jordan lives. In a rush to leave Thursday morning, Douglas Jaffe hastily grabbed what he thought was an empty bag in a closet and packed his belongings. But, unbeknownst to him, Jordan Jaffe had used the gun and bag last weekend while participating in a gun safety course at the family's ranch.

The gun -- a compact Kel-Tec P3AT, according to ABIA spokesman Jim Halbrook, which the manufacturer describes as the "lightest .380 auto pistol ever made" -- was registered to Jordan Jaffe, the resort says.

Douglas Jaffe was completely unaware the pistol was in the bag, the resort says.

The resort's statement says Douglas Jaffe says the incident was due to a "very serious mistake on his part."

"He is extremely embarrassed and regretful, especially in light of the heightened security and increased level of anxiety for airport staff, security, and fellow travelers," according to the statement.

Jaffe became CEO of the popular resort in 2004. Prior to that, he was vice chairman of the resort and vice chairman of Jetran International Ltd., a San Antonio-based aviation company owned by his father.

On Thursday morning, federal officials heightened security at airports across the country -- including ABIA.

The terrorism alert was raised to red for all commercial flights from the United Kingdom to the United States and orange for all other domestic flights. The increased airport security stems from a Thursday morning announcement that British police disrupted a late-stage terror plot to bomb as many as 10 planes flying from London to various U.S. cities.

ABIA is on the orange, or high, threat level, ABIA spokeswoman Julie Baisley says.

The Department of Homeland Security says its Transportation Security Administration is intensifying existing security requirements and taking additional security measures. Baisley says that means passengers can't pack "anything liquid" in their carry-on luggage -- gels, lotions, toothpaste, medications, or other liquids. A few liquids, such as medications and baby food, are allowed.

Bring a camera on your vacation, if you DO see a 30.06 sign, post it on http://texas3006.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; because I've never seen one in person in my life. ( I don't go to Austinfornia much, ... even less since I'm boycotting them for boycotting Arizona )

Travel Tip... Gasoline is usually Cheaper in Cedar Park than it is in Austinfornia too on 183 inside Cedar Park instead of 183A, then you can take a pretty scenic hill country roller coaster drive from Cedar Park to Marble Falls .... drive carefuly.

Thanks, I saved the pictures, yes, I've seen pictures of them before ... I meant we just don't have any posted in this part of Texas, so I've never seen one "in person" in this area ... (except an outdated one at a hospital)

There is a Chilis restaurant in Marble Falls, I read of another Chilis being posted in another city, I may go there later in the week to see if they have a sign or not, but I've been looking for a couple years, haven't seen one "in person" yet in this area..

Hmmm, a muffler/Gun Store -- If they could just add a laundromat, they'd have the perfect business paradigm! "rlol"

I drove through Schulenburg yesterday. They had a meat market & gun store ("wieners and guns!") and apparently a liquor and gun store (motto "Shoot'em up/Slam'em down"). Couple other gun stores as well, but didn't see what they were paired with...

Also some pretty churches.

Other than in Austin, and the one in Horsehoe Bay and Cedar Park, about the only "gun store" that is ONLY a "gun store" I know of, is up in Killeen .... huge inventory there.

Actually Burnet County HAD a couple "gun stores" at one time, but they all closed... so most "Gun Stores" in the area are FFLs that also sell something else/have another business there too.

With the oil slick hitting Lousiana today, it is looking more and more like Horseshoe Bay.

Thanks for the warning about speeding. I drive a kinda splashy sports car that would be picked out rather quickly.

Wow, It never ceases to amaze me at the wealth of knowledge that is on this board! Not only can I enjoy the resort, but also hang like a local. How cool is that?

Thanks guys.

Well, it's final. Oil on the beaches in Alabama. Looks like I will be on vacation in west Texas in a week and a half. Enchanted rock is only an hour away, I can make a day trip out of that!
