How often....

Post by newTexan »

Topic came up in causal conversation with the lady of the house, so I thought I'd do some informal polling...

How often do you buy a new handgun, shotgun, or rifle?

Not often enough!

But then again, my better half subscribes to the "we have plenty of guns" line of thinking. At least for our house.

I dont have any regular schedule. I keep a small amount of cash on hand and will grab a really good deal if it comes along. I have bought 4 in one month or gone 9 months without buying anything. If there is some spike in the market I will sell some to get cash for when it drops again, like now. Usually I cruise the local gun shows on opening day to grab the FTF stuff since thats been the best deals for me. I lowball most of the time and all they can do is say no, but, do get a few takers. :fire

If I want a new gun I have to buy 2 of them. My friends think I'm lucky that I'm married to a shooter, but it does get expensive buying everything in pairs.

Let's see... I've been old enough to buy guns for 26 years, and I've purchased 1 handgun and 1 shotgun (both in the last 6 months).

So... That'd be .0769 guns per year! Or, one gun every 13 years.

Hey, I'm off to a slow start. But I'm picking up the pace since I've wised up a bit. :thumbs2:

Only when I need one. I haven't made the move to collector yet.

The Henry? Well, what can I say? I like westerns and lever rifles and can't afford an original. Is that the right term?

I probably only average one every 2 or 3 years. But what's just as good a question, how often do you sell one. I don't think I've sold more than 5 or 6 but I've kicked myself for every one of them.

based on the amount of time I've owned guns and the amount of guns I have, I average 1 per month...

I keep cash set aside to buy deals I come across. I browse twice a month or so like local pawn shops, gun shops, and gun shows. If there is a deal on something that I am remotely interested in I will buy it, try it, and decide what to do with it. Usually I stick in my safe and let it marinade for a while. I hate selling guns but do it all the time. I spread my money around a lot when it comes to firearms and related items. New firearms are kinda far and few between for me honestly.

I have only started buying in the last 18 months, but I have bought 6 pistols, 2 shotguns and a rifle in that time to augment a revolver and shotgun we already had. I have the blessing and curse of having a wife that also likes to shoot so I am playing catch up for both of us. I suspect when I get to a certain point I will slow down a bit, but I don't know how many that will be.
