laserlyte laser trainer lt-1

Post by austin-tatious »

OK, I broke down and bought one of these from Cheaper Than Dirt about a month ago. Plus shipping etc I think it came to $85.

On balance, I wish I had bought it many moons ago. What a blast and using it is helping my trigger control immensely.

Pros:
1. You can use it almost anywhere.
2. You can put it in constant-on mode to get a fair idea of how well your pistol or rifle is sighted in.
3. It clearly shows where your gun is pointing when you pull the trigger. It also shows how steady (or unsteady in my case) you are holding the gun when the trigger is pulled. It stays on maybe 1/4 of a second. Therefore if you are moving the gun when you pull the trigger, you will see that movement very clearly.
4. It has adapters for any caliber between .22 and .50.

Cons:
1. An obvious one - the laser does not obey ballistic laws. So you need to take the point of "impact" with a grain of salt...particularly at longer ranges. No recoil either.
2. You have to be careful with the batteries...they are not cheap and if you leave them in when storing the LT-1, you risk full discharge. (AMHIK.)
3. This model protrudes from the gun barrel about 3 inches, so practicing drawing and shooting is not going to go well. But minor run-and-gun moves are ok. (They do make a model that does not protrude at all, which costs maybe $20 more. I kinda wish I'd bought that one. But I'm not sure if it has constant-on mode.)
4. Potential safety issue: You need to triple check your gun is not loaded before you use the LT-1 and still follow the usual 4 rules. No pointy at people to "shoot" them!! But maybe that's a Pro, not a Con...you still have to practice the 4 gun rules!

Has anyone else bought or used one? What can you add to the list?

Me? I really like it.

Great review, and thanks for posting! I saw Rob P use it on one of the TV shows the other day and wondered if it was just hype. Nice to hear from an actual user.
