The Old Courthouse, Denton has a great gun collection.

Today I visited the Old Courthouse, on the Denton Square.
This building was built in 1896 and is a classic gem of that
area, as many Texas courthouses are.

This building is now home to only Commissioners Court,
while the new larger courthouse on McKinney St. handles
all the Denton County District court cases today.

On the first floor of The Old Courthouse on the Square is
a free museum that covers many aspects of Denton County
history. It has many artifacts and great photos.

What was surprising to me is the large number of guns that
are in their collection:

They have several sets of dueling pistols, circa 1800, in
wonderful carrying cases that contain all the accessories as well.

They have a "Cops and Thugs" .38 revolver that was made in the
1880's. The wooden grip has a carving of a cop arresting a thug.

They have a 4 shot .32 derringer, many other kinds of derringers,
1903 Springfield, 1943 Model 1911 whose tag says it takes ".45 ALP"
ammo, an M1 Garand, a German anti-tank rifle which is enormous,
and many more firearms for which I can't remember the specifics.

I would urge anyone who finds themselves within easy miles of
Denton to visit this museum. It's free and the gun collection alone
will be worth your time.

Thanks for the tip SIA! :tiphat: I love touring the old courthouses in Texas. And to have a gun collection in one of them is just a special treat.
