Question on Signage?

Post by LongHairedRedneck »

One of my favorite baitcamps here in Galveston has some signage that I want to hear what others think of.

They have the "Unlicensed or Licensed possesion is a felony" sign in english only with no mention of 30.06 anywhere but they are also a "on premises" alcohol licensed place. So question is since they have no mention of 30.06 but are a "on premises" alcohol location is it legal to carry inside??

Was it this?

I've seen some antique signs around Galveston. I don't know how they have survived, but they are obsolete and meaningless now.

It depends on the license.

Seamus: its not the red 51% sign, but it has the same wording and is posted on front entrance.

Jester: Its for on premises consumption of Beer & Wine

If neither the 51% or the 30.06 signs are present, I walk right in everytime. (excluding the always "no no" places, banks, post office, etc.)

Banks are not a "no, no" place unless posted. Perhaps you meant schools, post offices, etc.?

Lots of places post the wrong signs, lots of signs are old and faded.. I've seen a 51% sign where the red 51% was so faded it was mostly unreadable.

Only one way to know for sure:
Ask them to see their TABC License.
They are required to display it in a publicly viewable place by law.

In the middle of the license, in text, it will say either:

SIGN = BLUE
or
SIGN = RED

If it says BLUE, you are good to go :thumbs2:
If it says RED, leave it in the car :nono:

If they refuse to show you the license, and/or they have the wrong signs posted, (Eg, a 51% Sign, even if faded, when they are BLUE), call TABC and report them. They take these reports quite seriously and are usually quick to rectify the situation.

Also, as stated above, Banks are 100% Good to go as far as carry, unless they have a proper 30.06 sign.

Quick reference: The Two different signs look like this:
Image
This is a RED Sign, AKA a 51% Sign
No Carry Here. :nono:

Image
This is a BLUE Sign. The text will actually be in BLUE Lettering
Carry away here! :thumbs2:

Here is a picture of a TABC Licence. Notice how it says "SIGN=RED" on it. That means that whatever location this picture was taken at, IS a 51% location.

Larry H, you meant that banks are ok but not schools and post offices right?

My bad, I did mean schools. Although my bank does have a 30.06 sign, so I am used to dis-arming before entry.

Mine has just a gunbuster sign ... if they had a 30.06 sign, it would not be my bank any more, after I talked to the President of the Bank and let him know why (assuming the sign stayed). But no bank in my city has a 30.06 sign, so it's doubtful they'd leave one up and lose customers.

I would be picking another bank. The very least they should offer the customers is the co-compliance with State Laws.

Yep, look for another bank. Banks are like Walgreens now. If you miss one just stop at the one at the next light.

Now that we have gone totally off-topic, you might want to consider a credit union. They perform most of the services that an ordinary person needs from a bank. They pay better interest on deposits, charge less on loans, and are run by people who have warm, red blood in their veins instead of ice water.
