3rd Renewal questions.............

O.K. instructors (or educated other's).

What are the most current (7-2010) requirements concerning a person's third CHL renewal?

I need to re-up before 12-2010.

If I remember correctly, I will NOT need to attend a class or demonstrate "proficiency".

What about fingerprints and passport photos? (didn't something change back in May)?

What form do I need to fill out, where do I get it (on-line)?

As of May 1, 2010, CHL renewal applicants are no longer required to submit fingerprints or photos as part of their renewal application. TXDPS now has the technical capability to resubmit good quality fingerprints and photos.

So....the implication is that a third time renewal would only require filling out the paperwork/forms and sending in the appropriate fees, correct?

I would give an answer, but since DPS doesn't advise instructors of changes before they get posted to the website for the general public, then I would probably be wrong by the time you read it.

OK, as of this minute, renewals don't have to submit photos, fingerprints, or affidavits. Just the application and the CHL-100. 3rd renewals don't need the CHL-100. I think you just fill out the online application and send them money.

Crossfire is correct, as usual.

I had a renewal last week who thought that he had to do the range portion, but not the class. I advised him that I was happy to run him through on the range, but thought that he either needed to 1) take the four hour course, or 2) only submit the online application and payment. I encouraged him to check his particular situation with DPS, who advised him that he only need to complete the online application and submit payment.

I too was up for my third renewal so, after confirming with DPS that I was correct, all that needed to be sent in after the internet work was the checklist that you printed out.

Of course my application is still pending so maybe I should wait to tell you this until it comes in the mail.
