new chl holder

Post by karder »

I am happy to report that after about 3 years of talking about it, one of my friends finally sent in his CHL application this last Friday.

We used to run a business together and he knows I have a CHL and had asked about it. He always thought it was a good idea to have a license, but just never got around to it. Finally he had a scary experience which made the difference. He and his girlfriend went to a Chilies restaurant rather late in the evening. When they left, several men followed them out because they decided my friend was looking at them funny. They confronted him in the parking lot and he is certain he would have been assaulted if not for the fact that there was a constable sitting across the street. The constable, who was likely watching for drunks to pull out of the lot, noticed an argument developing so he spotted them with his light and flashed his overheads. My buddy knows he got really lucky and the whole thing scared the dickens out of him. He is a small person physically and he is not going to come out on the top end of a fight with one guy, much less 3. The constable really saved his bacon.

That same week, he took his CHL class and went out and bought a .40 S&W sigma. He is not a gun guy, so when I asked him why he chose the sigma, he told me "because it was the cheapest one there". We went to the range and he brought a bunch of Wolf ammo, "because it's cheap". Not the best logic when buying a tool you may need to save your life.

I must say, that Sigma shot like a champ. It spit out that Wolf ammo with no problem. The trigger is beyond horrible, but for point blank self-defense, I was rather impressed with the gun. It shot without a hiccup. Good accuracy, or as accurate as it could have been with that trigger. Not bad at all. It sure ain't a Sig or a Kimber, but as a self-defense weapon for someone who does not care about guns, I would have to give the Sigma a nod of approval from what I experienced. I just cautioned my friend in invest in a box of good quality ammo for when he carries, and other than that it should work fine.

I have a S&W Sigma 40 and it's a great gun. I've never had a problem with mine, but I don't carry it for my concealed weapon. I choose to carry my XD 40 instead. The recoil is better with the XD and my shot placement is much better with the XD.
Help support the Second Amendment by joining the NRA! We would not have a CHL program without them!
