Buying a handgun

Im waiting on my renewal for my CHL to arrive. If I want to buy a handgun what is the procedure? Is there a wait? I have never bought a pistol without a CHL. Mine is expired till my new one arrives.

If your buying from an FFL, then the procedure will be the same except that they are required to call in the NICS.

There is no waiting period in Texas on a handgun purchase.

I have bought with and without displaying my CHL. The wait without the CHL was maybe 3 minutes longer as opposed buying with the CHL. Now, if the NICS computer is down will take longer but that has never been the case on my purchases.
