Frisco Gun Show This Weekend

Post by joe817 »

It's put on by the same people who do the Original Fort Worth Gun Show...the big one.

This is a 500 table show at the Dr.Pepper Arena in Frisco. Free parking. Admission is $8.00.

I don't know a thing about this small show, but thought you folks in Collin county, N.Dallas area would be interested. :tiphat:

P.S. I just saw a TV ad on our local KXAS channel 5. During the Bonnie Hunt Show, no less.

(Before you all get all weird on me, I was walking through the living room on my way to the coffee maker, and the daughter was watching the show.) :totap:

Thanks for the info Joe. The Father-in-Law is in the mood for a new carry piece. Maybe I'll get my Kimber back sooner rather than later :thumbs2:

Most welcome! :tiphat: I hope they have a good turnout there. It is the promoter's newest location and show. It might even be their first one there in Frisco. They put on great shows.

Let us know how it goes!

Probably a dumb question, but this will be my first gun show since I got my plastic. This is going to be a posted 30.06 situation isn't it?

rbftfire, the only dumb question is one that isn't asked. :tiphat:

The only way to know for sure is to go there and check it out, or call the show promoter.

If it's like the Ft.Worth Show(same promoter) it MAY be. I honestly don't remember. But you'll prolly go thru a line where a LEO zip ties your gun & you're good to go. The last Ft.Worth show I went to, I left my loaded magazine in the car, carried empty gun(with empty spare mag with me) into the show, had it zip tied and carried openly all through the show, with no worries. I didn't even get a second look.....except the dealers with sharp eyes coming up to me and wanting me to sell them my gun! I had about 4 or 5 of those's.

I have yet to determine ownership of the arena. I don't seem to find it in the arena website.

I have yet to see a gun show where one could carry concealed or open a loaded firearm. Not a good practice. Besides, what is going to happen. All kinds of uniformed officers all over the place. I really don't thing one would have any worries about going to a gun show. Never have been asked if I was licensed or not. And have carried lots of guns in and out with no questions..

And agreed, there are no dumb questions. Only dumb answers.

I'll be going Saturday morning. The arena is posted, the front doors facing Warren Pkwy, but not the entrance from the east or west (parking garage entrance). The promoters site says it will be posted (same as Joe described).

I thought it was OK, I was there from 9:45 to about noon. the upper level was not lit well at first and was crowded. I think the floor of the arena worked ok, it also got a little crowded between tables. I only saw the tables in the lobby area on my way out.
I was looking for the M&P Pro, I was actually surprised not to see any (and I went around twice). I bought the S&W M&P 9mm full-size to complement my compact and I ended up also leaving with the M&P 15-22, 2 S&W .22lr mags and a nylon 5 shell 12g butt stock ammo carrier.

I went to the Frisco show today. About the same as the Mesquite Rodeo show. 500 tables. Did anyone notice the 30.06 sign "before entry" on the glass window? Correct wording, but no way were the lower case characters 1". Also with white letters on glass, I'm not sure about the "contrasting colors" aspect. I noted the cardboard ones inside, but didn't take note of their adherence to pc 30.06. I believe the arena is owned by the Dallas Stars.

I was not impressed with the show. I am afraid I have to give it a thumbs down. Eight bucks was about double what they ahould have charged for the amount of merchandise. Just my opinion... no point in anyone getting bent about it... LOL. If you liked the show... woohoo for you.

PS I saw the same sign on the door but didn't analyze it. Not knowing if they had metal detectors in advance, I had alredy unloaded my weapon. I let the Police officer tie it. Got lucky... nobody tried to mug me while I was in there...LOL.

I went yesterday with my son.

On the plus side, it is the closest gun to us only about 20 minutes away. It is nice having a gun show on the north side. Also the parking was covered. It had lots of seating if you wanted to eat or just rest a bit, after all it is an arena.

Negatives - Not very many private sales, it seemed to be almost all gun dealers. Lighting in the balcony was atrocious. If you wanted to look at a gun, you really need a flashlight to see anything. It was also very crowded, hard to get around.

All in all, I will go again if they have one again although it is not my favorite venue.

quick question to those who go to gun shows and also carry. So the event is posted 30.06. Can you unload before you get there (parking lot), carry your mag in a pocket and have them zip tie your gun, then when leaving, just cut and load ?
