Guide Rod Laser for Springfield XDm .40 and 9mm

Post by MojoTexas »

One of the handguns in my collection is a Springfield XDm chambered in .40 S&W. Back when I first got it, I looked into getting a laser sight for it, but nothing was available because the handgun model was so new. I sent emails to Lasermax and Crimson Trace asking if they were planning on producing anything, and they both replied, "...not at this time."

Apparently (over a year and a half later) Lasermax kept my email address because I just got an email announcement that they've released a Guide Rod Laser for the 4.5" XDm chambered in 9mm or .40S&W.

Here's the link...I'm just passing it along in case anyone else owns an XDm and might find it interesting...

Yep, it should also work with the .45 as that guide rod is identical to the XDm-9 and XDm-40. Word in the rumor mill is that the Crimson Trace Laser Grip for the XDm is in development (It was hinted at when I called CT and asked the last time). If both were available right now, I would have to go with the Lasermax unit as it should work with both my 40 and 45 version.

Also with the guide rod solution, you don't have to worry about any holster compatibility issues.

I'm curious how CT would handle the three different backstraps that come with the XDms...would they have three different grips? Or would it just wrap around whatever you have?

Since I bought my Kimber I haven't shot or carried my XDm much any more. This might make it fun again. :-)

I would assume the same way the CT works for the M&Ps right? It just replaces all of them.

I doubt that the laser guide rod for the XDm-9 and XDm-40 will work on the .45. There should be a difference in the springs that would preclude use on all three calibers. I have the guide rod laser on an XD-357 and installed one on an XD-40 and the springs were different on these two lasers. That said I really like this system on my XD-357. It does shoot about four inches low at twenty yards but its not designed for target shooting and will work very well for self defense situations.

The guide rods on all are the same, and unlike your XD the XDm uses non captive springs similar to a 1911.

Thanks for the info G.A. I haven't had the chance to inspect an XDm so was unaware of that.
